Natalie Portman has a new shoe line, and it's vegan! I want soy pumps! And a tofu handbag! Natalie herself says that she's not quite a vegan as of yet. I've often seen her down at the D'Angelos chomping on a steak'n'cheese. This is unusual because the shoe website sorta claims she is: "As a vegan, it's been challenging finding designer shoes made of alternative materials. This collection offers a great selection without compromising quality or style." Which is it? Are you eating flesh or not? Natalie's veggie shoes are available at Te Ceasan in NYC. 5% of the profits from the shoes go to charity, and the rest go to that new fur coat she wanted.

I think that what you are doing is fantastic. I am a professional dancer and a vegan, and I have a problem finding professional dance shoes that are vegan. In fact, it is impossible as far as I know. I always buy vegan shoes for casual wear, or even dressy and elegant, but there is no shoe that is designed for the kind of intense wear that is needed for professional dance. Could you please make a line that is geared especially for the compassionate dancer? Not only us, but if you could come up with some really pretty, and comfortable ones, I'm sure we could convert even non-vegans.
I would help you in any way I can. I use my shoes until they literally fall apart and off my feet, because I hate to buy new leather ones. However, I do, and I would like to change that.
I work in the entertainment industry, dancing and doing choreography in movies, t.v. and commercials. I would be thrilled to help in any way, so please let me know what I can do to help.

Hmmm vegan shoes. So--aren't they made from....plastic? An oil/fossil fuel product? Is this *really* environmentally sound and cruelty free? Obviuosly the whole world is not vegan or vegetarian, so wouldn't it make more sense to make shoes from the hides of animals that are raised of food--isn't that a good way to use the whole animal??!? Our ancestors did it for thoushands of years! The ultimate recycling.
Besides--have you ver worn plastic shoes??!? They are HORRIBLE!

Really? You think everything that is not leather or suede is plastic? Haha!!! I have never worn leather/suede/fur, and I have had plenty of comfortable shows. I used to wear a lot of converse. Adidas used to make some man-made shoes. I am cheap, so I like going to payless. Did you seriously think the only type of shoes we could wear are jellies? Haha.
Also, no one is using left overs. Well, I can't say no one, but most of the leather you get is made for leather's sake. It is not in the spirit of recycling at all. Plus, if I don't agree with why people are killing the animals in the first place, why would I ever want to take any part in it?
