Heath Ledger Had A Will

Deceased actor Heath Ledger reportedly wrote and filed a will in April of 2003 in Australia. It was before his relationship with actress Michelle Williams, mother of his daughter Matilda Ledger. Heath's will left everything to his parents and his sister.

Documents filed in Manhattan court state that he had less than 145,000 in assets at the time, including a $25,000 Toyota Prius and $20,000 in furniture and fixtures. This seems unlikely to be the extent of his holdings, as it's unclear how trust funds, Australian properties and the Brooklyn townhouse he once shared with Williams figure into it.

Heath was found dead this past year of an accidental overdose of prescription medication. Heath's lawyer has asked that further documentation be sealed for privacy. No one's sure if Michelle Williams and 2-year-old Matilda will be getting anything. My advice? If you make it huge, update your shit. I know people get busy, but you don't want to leave your fam out in the cold. No one thinks they're going to take too many meds and kick it. But you never know.

I guess this was a sign that he loved his daughter?
Oh you bleeding Health hearts. I guess he loved himself more, well that and his parents. 2 years is long enough to get your life in check, and make sure your child is taken care of. Oh, how the Lawyers will be screaming with joy.

Nimrod, you named yourself aptly.

At least in the U.S., assuming the will does not expressly prohibit any afterborn child from inheriting, Matilda would likely be entitled to the same share as if Heath had died intestate (without a will).

And, quite frankly, he may have provided for Matilda by setting up a trust for her, naming her the beneficiary of his life insurance proceeds or retirement accounts, etc. - things that would not likely be made public since such assets pass outside of the probate process.

Just because he left something to his parents, does not mean he did not love his daughter. Hell, if I was worth millions, I'd throw some money my parents way, too.

Then why didn't he have the sense to update his will after having a child?

come on, people! do you really think the grandparents and aunt would cut their granddaughter/niece out? they will probably give over the whole cut to the kid...put it in trust, or whatever...
no one thinks they're going to die! two years is NOT a long time. it flies by, especially if you're really busy, like heath was. not only was he busy, he was ill...having troubles with insomnia, drugs, etc...he isn't thinking like a businessman or lawyer...
