Eccentric fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld is the subject of a new documentary by filmmaker Rodolphe Marconi. Lagerfeld Confidential takes us behind the scenes into Karl's wacky, fashion czar(ina) life. Lagerfeld's main contribution to the fashion world was resurrecting the House of Chanel empire after it went toe -up. The film is Lagerfeld Gone Wild, with delights such as Lagerfeld discussing how gay people suck nowadays because they no longer outrage "bourgeois social norms" and why prostitution should be legal. He's full of opinions.
"I'm rather pro-prostitution. It avoids frustration, and I admire people who do it. We can't all afford a mistress or an expensive friend. People need relief, or they become murderers. Is that a moral position?" he asks.
No, Karl, it's merely fabulous and right on the money. I didn't have to tell you that Karl likes boys, right? It's kind of a given. When we type "fashion designer", just assume they like boys. We'll indicate if they don't.
Karl never let Marconi see him without his hair powdered and pulled back in a ponytail and wearing one of his trademark ridiculous suits. I need to get drunk and see this mess. I PRAY that there's footage of him spitting about how Courtney Love betrayed his ass.

He's had people kissing his ass so long, he lost touch with reality about 30 years ago. It also looks like he's gained back all the weight he was bragging about losing a couple years back. Looks like his diet of foie gras and young men's semen isn't working the way he hoped.

It's amazing how something so titillatingly entitled "Lagerfeld Confidential" could be this utterly banal and uninteresting. If you enjoy lingering shots of Karl detangling his iPod headphones or shots of the top of his powered head through a second story window - then have at it. For the filmmaker to have unprecedented access to such an outrageous character and (disputed) design genius and then create this disappointing biopic is truly unfortunate.

Karl is definitely eccentric, controversial and often outspoken, and that makes him who he is, gives him verve, and has seen him break out to do innovative things. What he has done with the house of Chanel is nothing short of incredible. I look forward to seeing an updated documentary, the last documentary I watched about him, focused more on his work with Chanel, and that was so many years ago, during my own teenage aspirations to enter fashion design. He will definitely enter the hall of fashion fame, alongside Dior, YSL, and others.
