Lindsay Lohan's mugshot has been used in a print ad by the American Beverage Institute protesting the use of ignition interlocks. Ignition interlocks are a device that requires you to pass a breathalyzer test before being able to start your car. I understand their point, but every single time? Do they mean just for problem drinkers like me and Lindsay Lohan? Or is your church-going teetotaler aunt going to have to blow into her car every morning to get it to start?
The ad ran in USA Today, and it's advising against mandates to install these interlocks in every vehicle. The ABI is against this for your everyday drunk presumably because it could lead to less liquor sales? I'm probably missing the point but it's Friday and I'm just happy to see Lohan's mugshot put to good use besides making my fridge beautiful. Though I have been wanting to replace the mugshot with this picture.

Because of so many irresponsible drinkers, the ones who can't or won't call a friend or a cab, the rest of us would be much safer. It's always people who think falling down drunks need some extra love and just one more chance to kill innocent people that pisses me off.

Having interlocks installed as a standard feature on every car is ridiculous. I agree with the ad. I don't agree with them using Lindsay's mugshot, though, I DO agree that repeat offenders like Lindsay SHOULD have to have an interlock on their car.
