This event would have been the perfect opportunity, though, to take out Heidi and Spence. I wonder if someone would have broken the couple's ankles, if Heidi's horse-teeth veneers would have put her at risk for being shot.

Horse racing is barbaric.
The reason Eight Belles had to be put down right there on the track is that she had 2 broken ankles. There was no way she could hobble out on her own and there was no way of moving her to treat her nor could she have spent the entire recovery period down. There was no other choice.

I knew that Heidi was attending the Derby, so when I heard a horse had to be put down...I was naturally hoping it was Heidi!
So sad that a beautiful creature like 8 bells is lost and Heidi is still around....life is soooo unfair.
