Jim Carrey and girlfriend Jenny McCarthy led a rally today in Washington, D.C. to urge the government to eliminate toxins from children's vaccines. The "Green Our Vaccine" rally took place today in front of the Captiol building.
Carrey and McCarthy appeared on Good Morning America this morning, where Diane Sawyer interviewed them about how they're not against vaccines per se. They're actually trying to get mercury and other chemicals taken out of them. One theory is that mercury and other chemicals in childhood vaccinations is what causes autism.
Click here for a pretty interesting clip about Jenny and her autistic son Evan, and how Jim Carrey has helped them out. I have to say, for a bawdy and goofy lass like Jenny, she seems to really know her topic.
This post has been less than snarky, but I am capable of seriousness sometimes! Damn!
Plus, the cause is near and dear to my icy little heart. So if you have a sec, click on this link and check out how you can help in the fight against autism.

Hey! I really appreciate your post. Autism awareness is near and dear to my heart as well as I have an autistic son. I've never been a fan of Jenny McCarthy or Jim Carrey, but I give them props for all the work they've done with Evan and lending themselves as "celebrity faces" to help gain awareness of the prevalence of autism. Also, thanks fot to you for the "snark free" post. You did good today!
Lizz says:
please note that Jim's daughter, Jane, is also marching with them.
Donna Martin says:
Good for them for doing something nice. On another note Jim is really looking old!
MsTriste says:
I am an adult with an autism spectrum disorder (Asperger's Syndrome) and I'm pissed at Jenny and hate Autism Speaks. It has been proven that vaccines are not to blame for autism. Autism speaks is an organization that is for the parents of kids with autism - a way for them to take their blame and anger and channel it away, as opposed to accepting their kids as they are.
laprns says:
I understand wanting to find a reason for autism. It devestated my sister when her son was diagnosed, but most vaccines are proven to be safe. The nurse that spoke to us asked specifically if she had taken tylenol while pregnant and how much. There is a link there that is ignored. Quite a few countries have outlawed it's use while pregnant.
Katie says:
My brother has Asperger's Syndrome. He's brilliant, truly special and we do accept him as he is.
I'm mostly concerned with the children at the other end of the spectrum who struggle with the most basic of life skills and will never be able to live without care. Yes, this makes parents angry and want to search for answers.
Whether or not vaccines are linked to autism, people have a right to question why they contain these chemicals and why children are now being pumped full of them.
DruNken LauRen says:
J. me luvs you even more today than yesterday... my son has mild autism too.
MsTriste, please lets not hate... ok, autism needs awareness... i don't know what to believe but anyone bringing this to light, i encourage, so we can one day know exactly what causes it..... and autism findings are very new.... please lets not hate... ok, no more TRISTE.... FELIZ is better
DruNken LauRen says:
laprns: I didn't take meds whild pregnant w/my son. I did eat a lot of chocolate though... LOL....
but like mentioned before, we don't know much about this, as of yet.
I think my son might of got it from his dad. The dad is a loner, only has 3 friends, doesn't like socializing and rarely has something to say
Time to shut it says:
I think Jenny M. reveals her ignorance about the subject of vaccines causing autism every time she is on TV. It only motivates other ignorant parents to refuse vaccines for their children, which puts ALL children at risk. There have been several studies showing no connection, and the chemicals in question have been removed from vaccines for several years now. Why not advocate for autism funding and research instead???? ugh
peachpie says:
as a person who knows virtually NOTHING about autism, i found it quite enlightening to hear the things that mccarthy/carrey had to say. and while all the information might not be 100% controversy-free, at least i know more about it now than i did 30 minutes ago. i thought autism was just mental retardation. (do they even still use that word anymore?)but i can see from their statements and website and from a few of the comments here that i was clearly mistaken. thx for the post, MrHarvey. thx for the comments, ppl. and thx to mccarthy/carrey for putting autism on the tips of thousands of peoples tongues today.
Zekers says:
Peachpie, autistic children tend to be very intelligent little people! I've worked with autistic children for years and found them to be the most frustrating AND at the same time, most rewarding children to work with.
nitramnaed says:
Time to shut it
Right on....McCarthy brings nothing to this "Non Debate". Time and money are wasted here and not spent on autism awareness and the astronomical cost of therapy and social skills training. Jenny and Jim. Please move on!!!!!!!!!
b.SL says:
I love how people are like "Please shut up!", but aren't making an effort to do anything in regards to awareness & change themselves. I commend them for doing something for their son & for others. The nation is now far more aware of conditions like Austims because of people like Jenny McCarthy getting involved. Instead of complaining, maybe you should get involved too.
Ppl always hate when you're trying to do something good... if she was still "Partying @ the Palms" & kissing other men and/or women, everyone would be all "She looks like she knows how to have fun! I love her!"
Zekers says:
b.SL,
...or they'd say "Look at her, she has an autistic son, why isn't she home with him?" ...bottom line-people will always criticize so you do what you feel you must...I'm sure Jenny draws strength from being involved...so who are we to criticize? You make a good point b.SL.
[rsvj[or says:
agreed -- because, b.SL, i am one of the ppl in the nation who is now more aware...
"The nation is now far more aware of conditions like Austims because of people like Jenny McCarthy getting involved."
because of you, Zekers, Lauren, Katie, MrHarvey, Jenny Mc and Jim Carrey, i know more about autism than i did yesterday. so naysayers, perhaps, just perhaps, they have done some good.
peachpie says:
LOL!!
[rsvj[or = peachpie with the fingers shifted over once key to the right! sorry about that!
(but glad i came back to reread!)
Cathy Adams says:
I am so glad that someone is finally doing something about this mass Injury to our children. I have wondered why Americans haven't marched It appalls me that in a day and age when children are supposed to be "protected" that the worst and most devestating injury is dictated and passed out by our government. I wish I had known about the March. I live in Nevada, but I would have been there.!
