Whoopi Goldberg hosted the 62nd Tony Awards last night from Radio City
Music Hall in NYC. I saw Mary Poppins on Broadway. I'll admit it. Hey,
it was a hot show! I was totally into the "Supercalifrag-I'm not typing
the rest of that shit out" number. I wasn't dancing in the aisles or
anything. But it was cute. What wasn't cute was when they closed the
show by asking for money. Bitch , do you know how expensive it is to
stay in NYC? Damn!
Anyway, a couple of new productions were the big winners last night. In The Heights, a new musical about Latino families in NYC scored for Best Musical, and also for score, orchestrations and choreography. And the Pultizer-winning August: Osage County won for Best Play, Actress and Director. It's allegedly three hours long, so I hope the seats are comfortable.
Starpower seemed to be in short shrift, however. One of the evening's highlights was a reunion for the original cast of Rent. That show is closing soon. I wonder if the original Mimi wants to beat Rosario Dawson's ass down for taking her part in the movie.
