UPDATE: Christian Bale has been released on bail after
voluntarily turning himself in and his lawyers have released a
statement on behalf of their client:
"Mr. Bale who denies the allegation, co-operated throughout, gave his account in full of the events in question, and has left the station without any charge being made against him by the police," was the statement given to the L.A. Times.
As for his family, Bale's sister told British publication the Telegraph, "It is an extremely sensitive situation. There is nothing more I can say."

The box-office breaking star turned himself in to a London police station for questioning about allegedly assaulting his mother and sister in his hotel room the day before the movie premiere.
The women went to local authorities who then passed the case on to the Metropolitan Police who have only stated that there are no charges on a 34-year-old male who for assault allegations, and that he remains in custody. London police will not release names until charges are officially filed.

I'd just like to caution everyone to relax and wait to find out the details. A week before the Superbowl this year a woman claimed assault against Randy Moss. The media went nuts. A couple months after the initial claim, the woman dropped it. Nothing ever happened and she admitted that. So, always be patient when stories like this come out.

I checked other news outlets and it does sound a bit suspicious. They claim they were assaulted on Sunday but didn't report it until Monday...But, as the wise T-Bone stated, "...if he did what they say he did..."

Folks, his mom and sister are lowlifes who demanded he take care of them at his hotel. They got mad at the staff when they wouldn't let them into his room while he was out. I'm sure he didn't do anything wrong.

Apparently CB's sister & mother showed up at the hotel & made messy spectacles of themselves demanding to see him & harassing hotel staff because staff wouldn't let the 2 of them into CB's room without him there.
There's some drunk & drink issues with the sister & mother, and when CB arrived they demanded money from him & that he should "take care of his own."
The police have to investigate, but you can tell from how they're phrasing this whole thing that they doubt the validity of the claims of these 2 parasites.
You shouldn't feel anything for CB except pity that his biological mother & his sister are sponging, evil c*nts.

CB did the exact right thing by turning himself in. By cooperating with the authorities it makes him a sympathetic party to them. AND to the press and his fans. Good move.
If his mom and sis are the shrewish, gold-digging snags they seem to be, then my sympathies to Christian. What a damper on the success of the movie.

Even touching them is technically 'assault' in the eyes of the law. So if CB - as has been suggested - was just keeping his mother & sister from forcing their way into his hotel room, they can go to the police.
Ever shoved someone away from you who's in your face? That's (technically) assault.
Police usually see through these things & charges don't result.
And yes - I DO believe if a parasitic lunatic family member (or anyone else) is threatening my person, I have a right to protect myself. That includes kicking the sh*t out of them.

actually, assault is defined differently in every country and even within countries in certain jurisdictions.
I just read that in England, you can be arrested for verbally assaulting a person...so he could have been yelling at them and this is their way to "get back at him"

I KNOW WHAT HAPPENED: a friend of mine who is a concierge in London heard it through the grapevine: the mother and sister were very belligerent and possibly drunk and demanded his attention (noone knows if they wanted money or invites to the event or whatnot) and he had to push them off him.
Too bad that just because a terrible act is alleged most of the people who left earlier posts are ready to attack him.
His mom and sister are clearly malevolent sorts.
