After wrapping up his recent stint on Broadway in Chorus Line, Mario Lopez is returning to the small screen with a regular daily hosting gig on Extra. As the tabloid TV show returns for its 15th season, Lopez will be replacing the show's current host Mark McGrath.
As for Mark's co-host Dayna Devon will be bumped down to a "special correspondent" status, with Lopez charged with carrying the major hosting duties for the show. Hmm, maybe Slater was worried her muscles were more impressive than his.
A statement released by the show's production company said of Lopez, "Mario ... has established himself as a highly engaging, likable and sought-after host and personality." The powers-that-be are apparently planning a reformat of the show...for all five people still watching, I guess.
I always though Mark was kind of awkward on Extra. The company line is that Mark is pursuing musical projects. Really? If those "projects" were so plentiful, how'd he get roped into this embarrassing gig in the first place?
Poor Mark. He just wants to fly.
