So the USA basically rocks. Nastia Liukin won the gold medal in the
women's gymnastics all-round final. Her roommate Shawn Johnson, who's
the reigning champion, took the silver.
Yeah, they're roommates at the athlete's village. Nastia's going to wake up with a shaved head one of these days.
Nastia (I need that name) is only the third American woman to win a gold medal in the all-around. Mary Lou Retton (one of my cultural touchstones) was the first.
"I'm still kind of shocked and not quite sure what we are celebrating," Liukin, 18, said. "It hasn't hit me. It's definitely a huge accomplishment. I'll definitely remember it for the rest of my life."
Nice work, Nastia. Can you introduce me to these guys?
P.S. On the Olympics tip, and not to be an ass, but this story made me sorta hate China. Christ, she's like three. Her teeth are fine.
