Anyone that did not know Jessica Alba was Latina was fooling themselves. And any animosity for her from that community is based on a statement taken out of context, she never denied being Latina; she stated that she was not raised in that culture and so did not quite identify with it like someone else who has. Like some do, her parents made the decision to raise her "American", and so she was uncertain that she should be held up as a "Latina Actress" when she did not believe she exemplified that culture.
On another note, its simply entirely possible she was invited and accepted. Simple. People do change after having a child, and perhaps giving that child a sense of the culture she never had was part of her motivation for appearing.
