Meg Ryan admits that she's never been able to balance romance with having a career. Which is why she hasn't had a hit movie in decades and Tom Hanks has stopped taking her calls begging him to co-star with her again.
Here she is receiving the Francois Truffaut Award during the Giffoni Film Festival in Italy.
"It's very difficult to be a career person and have a relationship," she says. "I didn't succeed at doing it at all. It's incredibly hard.
Meg dumped husband Dennis Quaid to bang Russell Crowe while they were starring in 2000's Proof of Life with her. It was a big scandal at the time. He kinda chewed and screwed on her.
"I empowered myself by not staying in the thing with Russell," she said in 2006. "I felt it was going to be repeating some similar patterns that I'd just gotten out of and it was a drag because I was crazy about him."
"Empowered" = "Dumped."
Meg's starring in The Women, and I'm crossing my fingers for her that this becomes a big hit and revives her situation. Because it's pretty bleak.

M-, Dennis Quaid cheated on the poor woman for years so no wonder she dumped him for Crowe. There was never any attempt to work things out with Quaid. And as hard as it is for some people to accept: she really did end the thing with Crowe, not vice versa. Even his own closest friends confirmed that years ago.

Quaid did cheat on Ryan, but not until late in the marriage. She finally had enough and thought it was payback time. Things backfired on her though. She never meant for the divorce to happen. Quaid surprised her with that one. There was indeed an attempt at reconciliation between the two. In fact, more than one. All of this information comes from a person who was on both Quaid's and Ryan's payroll and is still friends with the both of them today. What is unfair is that Ryan's still paying for her affair and Quaid seems to have gotten by unscathed....even though he still cheats today.

She only looks weird in a couple of the photos. If she was growing old naturally, everybody would be flipping out saying how cute she used to be and what a hag she has become. You can't win in Hollywood as an actress whose popularity is tied to her looks. Look at Michelle Pfeiffer, barely hanging on by an eyebrow, virtually never spotted by a paparazzi flash bulb. Cute blondes should plan ahead for retirement around 45 years old.

What's she doing to her face? She's "had procedures". She's 46, still living in the past and despite her claims about empowering herself, made 4 very bad films in a row and ruined her career that way.
Word was that Ryan [who had initiated the affair with Crowe] didn't want to move to Australia with Crowe, who made is home there. He was crazy about her and brought her over for a visit, which reportedly didn't go very well. Guess Ryan thought he would move to LA, but she guessed wrong. They both did. End of affair.

She used to be the all American girl...great, natural looks. Perky, cute and natural. NATURAL...where did THAT go? Just goes to show you that no matter how many people tell you how pretty you are (the whole world in her case!), it doesn't matter if you don't believe it yourself. Meg must have been feeling really insecure to do that to her face. Dennis Quaid literally ruined her with his cheating and drug abuse. Meg was crazy about him, and stuck by him thru all his relapses and banging around. Russell Crowe is no longer a gladiator, and has morphed into a bloated, smelly, arrogant cad. Meg is a great actress, but her personal life & plastic surgery is killing all her Meg-ness that we used to love.
