Bono Chastises Wall Street At Clinton Philanthropy Summit

Share

Even though I've been doing my best to ignore the current financial crisis that has prompted President George Bush to suggest a funding a bailout plan consisting of $700 billion worth of U.S. taxpayer dollars, a celebrity speaking out on the matter has burst my little cozy bubble. Because if a celebrity ain't saying it, I ain't hearing it!

Brangelina godfather Bono spoke at the fourth annual Bill Clinton global initiative and expressed his frustration with political priorities of the U.S. government, "It is extraordinary to me that you can find $700 billion to save Wall Street and the entire G8 can't find $25 billion to save 25,000 children who die every day of preventable treatable disease and hunger," the U2 singer said.

It looks like this was an event that had celebrities mixing and mingling with politicos, with Al Gore, Gossip Girl fan Drew Barrymore, John McCain, Sarah Palin and Wyclef Jean in attendance.

no more close-ups of her, please..

thank you for posting Bono's comments. I will add Bono's comments to my statements when I write to my "congressional delegation." Readers can express their own view as well. Each member of congress has a website (www.thomas.gov). Just find their name and send in your comments.

He chastised Wall Street, and rightly so. But consumers, lenders AND the federal government are equally to blame for this crisis. Consumers who took out big loans when they knew they couldn't afford them are just as responsible. The greed of the American consumer, wanting their big homes and big everythign else, is to blame as well. I recall being offered about a $400,000.00 loan for a mortgage and laughed in the mortgage banker's face, stating that I would drive myself into the ground, thank you, so just give me $250,000.00 of that. It's called personal responsibility.

No one wants to bail out big business at the expense of the taxpayer. NO ONE. But what's the flip side? An even worse economic disaster? There are many sides to this story. Educate yourself before picking a side.

I really don't understand the correlation between trying to prevent the collapse of the US econonmy and 25,000 starving children. U.S. taxpayers, via the government and as private citizens, give billions of dollars to help the poor locally and internationally. In other words, we do A LOT. So, Bono, shut the f#$$ up!

shut the f up bono. when you and your celebutard friends stop living ridicously lavish lifestyles then you bless us with your words of wisdom. what a pompous ass.

What a hypocrite! His moralizing is just plain obnoxious.

This man should shut the F**K up. He lost any credibility when he moved U2 Inc. to Amsterdam to escape Irish taxes. Move your money back to Ireland and then you can talk.
