During and interview with Manhattan radio station Z100-FM, Britney made it sound as if she didn't quite understand her success that evening either. The Blackout singer confessed, "It's a cool video, but I think by far I've done videos that are way better, so I was really shocked that it got the award."
I know my conspiracy theory is kind of a stretch, but it does seem like MTV could really benefit from a successful Britney. But whatever, I'm down with that.

I assumed it was a sympathy thing - especially after MTV let her go on stage last year in her condition.
Regardless, she was long overdue for 1. Her voice may not be that great but she does not make some good videos.
