Sarah Palin Drops By SNL

Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin took a trip to New York to Saturday Night Live to show that the dead-on Tina Fey impersonations don't bother her one bit! She's a good sport, e'erbody!

Palin did a serviceable job of portraying herself in the cold open, but it was a pregnant Amy Poehler who was the real star of the Update: Palin Rap sketch.

Keep your eyes peeled for a chair-dancing Sarah Palin. It's like when my mom dances, only I'm pretty sure Sarah wasn't full of at least two and a half glasses of wine, so I was slightly less embarrassed for her.

If I see one more "photo-op" with her infant son, I swear I'm going to lose it. I would NEVER exploit my infant son in such a manner. This lady gives me the chills.

October 20, 2008 2:46 AM

My dear Carol, it's not exploitation. It's called being a mother. I realise poor liberal mums choose to shunt off their kids to nannies and day care as soon as they can, because they have a full time job, but I'm glad Palin doesn't have that mindset. In fact, I hope to God she establishes an alternate paradigm for powerful women (possibly what liberal feminists fear).

By the way, the jeans photos? Whoa, hot hot. And I say that as a woman.

Remember when the female press corps drooled at Obama, begging the Secret Service agent to sit down so they could cast a butchers at him in his jeans?

Methinks that if a male press corps member did the same thing, the female reaction would be "SEXIST!!!". What a sad double standard.

Victoria: So where was Palin's wonderful mothering skills when her 17-year-old got pregnant? She may come off as a good mother when shes touting around her infant, but the results are clear that she isn't a good mother if she can't even give her children the skills to not get pregnant as a teenager.

hello!!!!!! not every mom who has a teenage mother for a daughter is a bad mom. palin or an other mom can not be with their child 24/7. my mother told me every thing she could about being safe and i still made the choice to have a child at 20. where my mother always said wait till your 25. do you have children??? if you do are they with you now?? what about at night do you stand at the door to make sure they dont sneak out?? NO of course you dont but we can gut this poor woman about her child. what about obama he is not with his girls 24/7 if they were a little older they would be doing the same things pregnant or not they would be doing just what teens do. having fun with out thinking of the results is what kids do. you cant stop it.

Sheesh, Victoria. I'm an Republican, not some kind of "poor liberal mum." You neo-cons are dragging this great party down. Please stop; this ignorant judgmental stuff you're coming out with is McCarthyism.

As for powerful conservative women:“In the end the Palin candidacy is a symptom and expression of a new vulgarization in American politics. It's no good, not for conservatism and not for the country. And yes, it is a mark against John McCain, against his judgment and idealism.” Contributing editor to the Wall Street Journal and Conservative Republican, Peggy Noonan, October 17, 2008.

I'm fairly sure she's talking about you, Victoria. I'm voting for Obama; Colin Powell was right.

Hey Victoria;

Palin hired "a special assistant" when she became governor. This "assistant," at the taxpayers' expense, babysits the Palin kids.

I'm not throwing stones, but you are really waaaaay out of line. I don't think you know very much about Palin at all.

Ashely: No one is "gutting" Palin. My comment was about the exploitatoin of her infant son. He's been on magazine covers; she takes him onstage in front of screaming crowds. I'm sorry, but as a loving mother who spends a lot of time with her infant son, that gives me the chills.

Blimey Victoria! Don't get your knickers in a twist!

Palin is a phoney and dimwit. If she at least knew basic civics I would give her a shred of respect. Have you heard her in interviews?! The McCain folks picked her for two reasons: to appeal to the far right and to try to pick up Hil's supporters. Oh, and three...because she blew Mitt Romney.

Anyhoo, I don't know that she is so evil as to use her kid as a prop, but he does seem to come in handy for her. Can you be a good, attentive mother to five children and also be second in line for the most powerful postion in the free world? I don't know. She doesn't strike me as an exceptional person, so in her case, I really doubt it. Someone (her kids) are going to lose out. Although, maybe that's okay...they might actually turn out to be decent human beings!

Ashley: Of course parents can't be with their children 24/7, but the can at least teach them the skills to not get into that kind of situation. A mother should teach her daughter about safe sex, even if she believes in abstinece-only education. She has to understand that even though sex before marriage may be against her religion, sex still can happen amongst teenagers. You said "i still made the choice to have a child at 20" meaning you actually made the decision to have a child. Bristol is 17 and in high school and I'm sure got pregnant by accident. You think its a good decision to have a baby before you get your diploma?

October 20, 2008 7:39 AM

while I wouldn't exactly call that pic above a "photo-op", I do believe that she has used her son's disability to promote (enhance?) her candidacy.

and, frankly, I've seen her Piper Palin holding that baby more than his mother.

and victoria, if you're actually implying that it's only "liberal mums" who use nannies, I invite you to shut your pie hold because you clearly have no idea what you're talking about. (and if they're "poor", how can they afford a nanny?)

"Can you be a good, attentive mother to five children and also be second in line for the most powerful postion in the free world"

This is THE MOST sexist comment out here, because we would NEVER question this if it were a man. Ugh! disgusting.

October 20, 2008 8:55 AM

Palin is an embarrassment to today's women.

I was leaning towards McCain until he selected the Alaskian moosehead as his running mate. He proved right there his decision making skills are questionable.

People when voting for Pres make sure the VP is qualified as well....just in case. Considering McCain's poor health, it is so possible.

I'm pretty sure Palin will be with her baby as she is sworn in as Vice President. NOT!!! Who would dare drag their baby along. What an idiot. Where is her sound fundamental parenting 101 skills. This baby has been held and put on public display for all of the wrong reasons. Enough is enough. Maybe after the election, she can be the poster mom for children with special needs and become an advocate for a greater cause. Hopefully her supporters will demand it.

i don't think that five kids comment was sexist.

special needs kids are a lot of work. sarah palin does not seem like the kind of person who can handle the balance. we all know men and women who can, but palin just doesn't have it.

i'm a mom and dem. and work full time.

But Barack Obama could have 5 kids, one of them with a developmental disability and AGAIN, we would NEVER question whether he's ready to lead the country, now would we? Joe Biden could have a child with a disability and we would never question his ability to be Vice President. Pretty sure of it. In other words, we're pretty much just questioning whether SARAH PALIN is capable of having 5 children (one with a disability) while attending to such a powerful position, right? Yeah --- that's called sexism. I know you're trying to pull off that question by saying well I just don't think she has what it takes AS A PERSON, cuz that's bullsh*t. You're questioning her because SHE is a SHE.

MY mother tried to be around 24/7, and was for the most part. I couldn't do anything, not even get up for a drink of water in the middle of the night without my mom waking up to see what I was doing. She seemed to know where I was at all times, even if I didn't tell her. I'm sure it was exhausting, but my brothers, sisters, and I are all the better for it!

Sarah Palin is a moron. Her winking and flirting is condescending, and she is NOT the person I want leading this country when McCain's eldery ass drops dead of a heart attack or a stroke.

Hey Sarah...how's that abstinence-only education working out for you and your family??

T-Bone;

Obama does not wink and flirt; he also does not hold up an infant son in front of screaming crowds, nor pose for magazine covers with an infant son. He also knows what the Bush Doctrine is; both pre-9/11 and after. In addition, he would come out with comments at rallies that incite fear and hatred, then do nothing to dissuade people from screaming out vicious comments and diatribe.

Perhaps this might explain some of the lack of enthusiasm people have for Ms. Palin:

To say that Palin is not particularly kind to those who don’t support her is an understatement. Lyda Green is a highly-respected Republican and is president of the Alaska state senate. She resides in Wasilla. Lyda did not feel that Palin was ready to run for governor in 2006, and declined to endorse her, preferring to remain neutral. In January of 2008, Palin was on the Mark & Bob Show, a radio show in Anchorage. During the radio spot, Bob Lester remarked to Palin that he knew she viewed Green as “a bitch and a cancer.” Palin just laughed and giggled at his comments, knowing full well that Lyda is a breast cancer survivor. (I heard a taping of the broadcast.) What was particularly hard on Lyda is that her children had to learn about the incident by reading about it on the Internet.

That's just the tip of the iceberg.

Oops -- sorry, meant to type that Obama "wouldn't come out with comments at rallies..."

is anyone mad at the celeb parents who just happen to be with their children or are they taking there kids out for pics too. for one second forget who you are voting for and look at them as people. would you say that if it happened to your best friend or neighbor. no!! if that was the case you would feel sorry that they had a disabled child and 4 other kids. one of which was underage and pregnant. you would not tell your best friend that she is a bad mother becasue her daughter got knocked up. you would say it is not your fault teens do as they please you did as much as you could. not omg did you see that!!!! she is 17 and pregnant!!! her mom is the worst!! these people are just human. palin obama mccain and biden all just human.

October 21, 2008 2:20 PM

ashley: I really can't believe that you have had a child already. Your attitude about children is really disturbing. Only teens who haven't learned anything from their parents get into those kinds of situations. I was taught all about life from my parents. I learned that my consequences have actions. Sure teenagers do what they want without thinking of the consequences. I call those teenagers morons. You can't generalize about all teenagers like that. A majority of them do think before they act, even when they do stupid shit. I drank and did some drugs, but I never drove drunk or shot up heroin with a used needle or smoked crack. I also had sex, and I didn't get pregnant or an STD, because I learned from my parents how to function in the real world. It's really a poor attitude to have to think that teenagers are completely irresponsible and will just do anything. If their parents gave them a good foundation of learning, they won't do it. Palin obviously did not, therefore I don't trust her postions on family or sex education.

I pray for your child. Hopefully someone will teach them how to be responsible, because by the way you sound, you aren't going to give a shit about them when they are teenagers.
