Tom Cruise takes another stab at repairing his tarnished image. This time he used Matt Lauer's Friar's Roast as his platform.
The New York Post reports, "Believe it or not, Matt and I are friends," Cruise said as a mock slideshow appeared of the two of them on vacation together. "In fact, when the 'Today' show has 'Where in the World Is Matt Lauer' , I'm the one person in the world who knows where he is," Cruise cracked. Joking that Lauer actually gives "great advice," Cruise said it was the newsman who suggested he talk to Oprah about Katie Holmes. He said Lauer insisted: "Hey, hey, Top Gun. You know when people go on my show, you think I want to hear about their dopey movies? Tom. Tom. Tom. Don't be glib . . . You know, go crazy, man. Trust me, people will love you for it."
The funny didn't stop there. Cruise went on ridiculing Lauer, "I have this hectic life jumping from international movie sets to amazing parties to amazing parties to international movie sets . . . You found happiness doing the same thing every day, never wondering how your life would change." He finished with: "Now lose my number, you glib putz. Cruise out."
Not to be outdone, Lauer came back: "Tom, can you stay? You sure? We can get a booster seat."
And maybe a pair of lifts.
