"Politically we could not be more opposite, but I respect her tremendously. Truth is, we could not have a dialogue without Elisabeth. It's not that we have to agree, the important thing is that we have the conversation," Whoopi said at a panel discussion on Monday night.
Truth. Heady political discourse (*eye roll*) is always good. And that show probably wouldn't have the ratings it does if Eiisabeth didn't chime in every so often with something designed to make liberal people clench their teeth and send her another death threat.

T-Bone says:
If Whoopi really means what she's saying then why has Elizabeth taken such an incredible beating from all the cohosts? Yeah -- they really respect her opinion. Not.
Death threats? Typical fanatical liberals... If you don't agree with what they're saying they either want to bully you or kill you. Nice (and oh so liberal and accepting). Hypocrites.
say what? says:
ahem.
I am all for INTELLIGENT political discourse. I don't agree with what hasselbeck says, but MOST of what she says are GOP talking points that have been debunked over and over.
if she actually had something intelligent to say, that would be great. I'm sure there are PLENTY of intelligent republican women who could easily hold their own in a debate with the shrews on that show. and not cry when challenged.
Death threats against ANYONE are disgusting and totally uncalled for. but if you'll notice, Whoopi said "more than anyone else". Hasselbeck's not the only one who gets them. so, are the people who make death threats against the other hosts "typical fanatical conservatives"?
you know, like the ones that have yelled out "kill him!" about Obama at McCain/Palin rallies?
green cardigan says:
NICE COAT.
THat's pretty much all I have to say on the matter.
michael says:
what kind of loser has the time to send a death threat to such a meaningless buffoon?
my guess is she got one and no one else on the show has gotten any.
nightbird says:
Chime in every so often? She's like a yapping chihuahua that is pre-programmed. Sherri Shepard should get a raise & valium just to have to sit next to her.
And who says it's true that liberals are sending death threats,it's probably a lie.
nerakami says:
Dear Elizabeth,
If you're now receiving death threats then you and Barack Obama do have something in common. He's been receiving them a lot longer than you though...
now you know what it is to walk in another man's shoes.
mike says:
I find it HILARIOUS that when a republican receives a death threat it's a joke but when a democrat receives a death threat it's a huge ordeal.
jpatch says:
Death threats, please. Elizabeth is loving the attention as is The View
There would not be a show w/o Elizabeth. So all her annoying chatter is necessary.
I just wish they would actually listen to each other once in awhile.
Liberal - conservative, who cares. We can all learn something from one another.
sami says:
So we have Elizabeth screeching her lungs out on The View.
Then we have posters here --
* Liberals screeching EH is an idiot.
* Conservatives screeching the liberals are idiots.
It all comes full circle.
They are all idiots!!!!!
T-Bone says:
Exactly, Mike. The feds were out in droves when it happened to Obama. Elizabeth, however, is not only female, but also a Republican, so it's something to joke about. And just because she has strong, conservative views, she's called things like "annoying", "yapping" and "irritating". Yet Democrats express strong views and they think of themselves as "educated". Funny...
hello says:
I really find it HILARIOUS when a republican can ALWAYS turn/spin a story to make themselves the victim. So predictable.
As far as republican Elizabeth and her death threats - She is a JOKE
palin - joke
j mccain - joke
c mccain - joke
bush - joke
cheney - joke
hannitty - joke
fox news - joke
Need I go on............................
hamina_hamina says:
"hello", you forgot:
t-bone - joke
WHAT HELLO SAYS says:
I don't know any republicans who think of themselves as victims. Only dumboCRAPS wallow in misery and blame everyone else for their troubles.
mg says:
The thing about rabid Republicans is that truth and reason mean nothing to them. Truth and reason in the real senses of the words. They have their version of what the truth is, and to deny otherwise is to be a dirty liberal. Rabid Republicans anger and disappoint me because they can't listen. They don't try to listen; they only try to scream louder to be heard and are assured of their rightness. They are right and that is that! Anyone who does not learn from another is a waste. Like EH, for example.
Steven says:
Threats......harumph, when is someone gonna go through with it?? If I have to hear the regurgitation of ultra right wing conservative Republican ignorance in her yappy annoying voice anymore I will scream......when are they going to wake up at fire her? She brings nothing intelligent to the table at all. All she can do is repeat over and over what is being said on Fox News......
mike and t says:
Democrats are all high and mighty out here but it ain't over til the fat lady sings kids. Barack and Joe Biden got lucky because the whole economic downturn due to the Clinton Administration loosening the belt on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mack and has been blamed on Republicans by uneducated people. Obama is going to get in by the skin of his teeth, I'm guessing. But then again they thought John Kerry was ahead in the polls too.
Marie says:
nightbird: No need to worry about Sherri; if EH follows in the footsteps of her idols her sleeping pill/painkiller addiction should be starting up any time now..
Wow, these pics could easily be of my future sister in law (appearance, fanatic far-right, she actually AGREES with Palin)...ugghhh.
Amber says:
They won't fire her, Steven. As annoying and ignorant as she is, she brings in ratings. That's the bottom line.
say what? says:
"The feds were out in droves when it happened to Obama."
well, uh...has it escaped you that HE'S A PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE and she isn't? I'm sure every death threat is investigated to deem whether or not it's a viable threat. but by the feds? as in secret service? their services are not for just anyone. and yes, the feds DID investigate that couple that had a hanging effigy of Palin.
and again, since you missed it the first time, it has NOTHING to do with her views. it has EVERYTHING to do with the fact that WHAT she says is either a talking point that has been debunked, or a total lie. she throws out a talking point, she is asked to elaborate, but can't. because all she knows are talking points. she can't articulate the conservative viewpoint intelligently. plenty of republican women can; she isn't one of them.
I know you're a smart woman T-bone, I've read your posts on here. and I'm at a loss as to why you would want a woman like this representing female republicans. .
@mike and t...it might interest you that the economic downturn that you speak of owes a lot to deregulation, which McCain has championed at every turn. the republicans have held the WH for the past 8 years, and Congress for 6 of the last 8 years. so, you may want to educate yourself and look to your own party to share the blame that you want to lay on the Clinton admin.
joan durtz says:
IMO: Anyone who votes for old alligator arms and that bimbo are not mental giants. Frankly, McCain is a cranky old bastard who has failed upward his whole life and who is a philanderer, and Palin is an ignorant idiot who needs to stop toting around her daughters baby and pretending like it is hers. Who in the hell would want a HOCKEY MOM running the country. What is going to do serve Kool Aid at the foreign policy meeting? Give me a break! Republicans in this country have a screw loose if they actually think she is qualified.
Listed to the BS that these weirdo conservatives are saying.
By the way...Joe Plumber is a liar!
Here is a letter to you righties:
Dear Red States:
If you manage to steal this election too, we've decided we're leaving.
We intend to form our own country, and we're taking the other Blue
States with us. In case you aren't aware, that includes California,
Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois
and all the Northeast. We believe this split will be beneficial to the
nation, and especially to the people of the new country of New
California.
To sum up briefly: You get Texas, Oklahoma and all the slave states.
We get stem cell research and the best beaches.
We get the Statue of Liberty. You get Dollywood.
We get Intel and Microsoft. You get WorldCom.
We get Harvard. You get Ole' Miss.
We get 85% of America's venture capital and entrepreneurs. You get
Alabama.
We get Hollywood and Yosemite, thank you.
We get two-thirds of the tax revenue; you get to make the red states
pay their fair share.
Since our aggregate divorce rate is 22% lower than the Christian
Coalition's, we get a bunch of happy families. You get a bunch of
single moms.
Please be aware that Nuevo California will be pro-choice and anti-war,
and we're going to want all our citizens back from Iraq at once. If
you need people to fight, ask your evangelicals. They have kids
they're apparently willing to send to their deaths for no purpose, and
they don't care if you don't show pictures of their children's caskets
coming home. We do wish you success in Iraq, and hope that the WMDs
turn up, but we're not willing to spend our resources in Bush's
Quagmire.
With the Blue States in hand, we will have firm control of 80% of the
country's fresh water, more than 90% of the pineapple and lettuce, 92%
of the nation's fresh fruit, 95% of America's quality wines, 90% of
all cheese, 90% of the high tech industry, 95% of the corn and
soybeans (thanks Iowa!), most of the U.S. low-sulfur coal, all living
redwoods, sequoias and condors, all the Ivy and Seven Sister schools
plus Stanford, Cal Tech, Berkeley, UCLA and MIT.
With the Red States, on the other hand, you will have to cope with 88%
of all obese Americans (and their projected health care costs), 92% of
all U.S. mosquitoes, nearly 100% of the tornadoes, 90% of the
hurricanes, 99% of all Southern Baptists, virtually 100% of all
televangelists, Rush Limbaugh, Bob Jones University, Clemson and the
University of Georgia.
Additionally, 38% of those in the Red states believe Jonah was
actually swallowed by a whale, 62% believe life is sacred unless we're
discussing the war, the death penalty or gun laws, 44% say that
evolution is only a theory, 53% that Saddam was involved in 9/11 and
61% of you crazy bastards believe you are people with higher morals
than we lefties.
Finally, we're taking all the good pot, too. You can have that dirt
weed they grow in Mexico.
Peace out,
the Blue States
T-Bone says:
Say what?
I actually would have voted for Ron Paul, had he even had a chance. And yes -- he's even more conservative than McCain, fiscally. But he was truly the smartest candidate out there. He's more of a constitutionalist/libertarian and I'm all for cutting the ridiculously LARGE, spend happy federal government out of most things. They are simply not equipped to run this country and between our DEMOCRATIC Congress and Republican President, we've really plunged our government into areas where it doesn't belong. And no, I don't agree with Palin as McCain's choice. Someone in the McCain camp really blew it when they chose her, although I'm not basing that on her political views, because I believe in many of them, I'm simply basing it on her lack of education, lack of work experience, and fundamental lack of professionalism, at times. Having said that, Obama has even less experience! And our DEMOCRATIC Congress hasn't done SH*T to turn ANYTHING around even though they are the ONLY ones who can do it. So it scares the bloody life out of me to have both a DO nothing Democratic Congress and a do nothing, no experience, Washington elitist running this country and taxing us all to death. If you think things are bad now, just you wait! We'll be in food lines by 2011. Mark my words.
election says:
Has Obama produced a real birth cert yet ?
T-Bone says:
P.S. Obama does have terrorist ties, he was indeed involved in a church spewing white hatred and very close to a the Reverend who ran this church, he was closely tied to Tony Rezko who ended up in prison because he was guilty of 16 counts of fraud including wire fraud, bribery, money laundering, and attempted extortion, his own state is in deep debt, and he has said many questionable things about America, including being proud of attending flag burnings and wanting to change the National Anthem. Those are his own words. This isn't the most trustworthy guy to run our country. Don't be so gullible, America. IF you're truly looking for change and you hate McCain, write someone in, but DON'T vote for Obama
Xicana says:
Oh, T-Bone. Sigh. First, to put it kindly, you're an alarmist. I'm so tired of Chicken Littles yelling at the top of their lungs that the sky is going to fall if(when) Obama is elected. No one can foretell our future, so quit telling people you know what's going to happen in three years done the line BECAUSE YOU DON'T!
Second, while Democrats might have the majority in Congress, and while the politically uneducated use this fact to blame them for not getting anything done, the truth of the matter is that a majority in Congress means shit without a supermajority. The filibuster is a procedure unique to the Senate to block an up-or-down vote on legislation unless a 60-vote supermajority is reached. Democrats have 49% of the Senate, Republicans also have 49%, while Independents are 2%. Democrats in this Congress just do not have the 60% required to break a filibuster!
In just the first year, Republicans filibustered more legislation, and required more cloture votes to break those filibusters, than in any Congress in recent history. 104 cloture votes were required in Congress as compared to 54 in the last Congress.
This Congress could have achieved many great things—including safely bringing the troops home from Iraq, reducing America's dependence on foreign oil and its contribution to global warming, and funding long-neglected domestic priorities—had it not been for the Republican obstruction.
It has been Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, a REPUBLICAN, who made it his mission to insist on a 60-vote supermajority, rather than a simple 50-vote majority, for getting bills through the Senate. In other words, dear T-Bone, this means that it is the Republican's fault that things have not gotten better.
Xicana says:
"Obama does have terrorist ties," blah, blah, blah. Sounds like T-Bone drank the Kool-aid that Faux News has been giving out. Methinks the gullible one is T-Bone.
Beth says:
people hate elizabeth because she is dumb. she is dumb and spewing all of the right wing garbage that has put our country in the worst position it has ever been in in every possible way. how people can be so stupid marvels the mind.
say what? says:
T-Bone, regardless of what you may thing of Obama, this post was about Hasselbeck. I didn't ask for your opinion on Obama, Palin, or McCain. I was trying to figure out why you'd want someone like Hasselbeck representing republican women.
but since you brought it up, we can talk about the other candidates. however, I realized I don't need to even respond to your rant as Xicana pretty much said everything I needed to.
Now, I'm thinking I should take back my statement that you're an intelligent woman.
@election...yes, yes he has. and if you tore yourself away from the shit that the GOP is slinging, you'd know that.
joan durtz says:
T-Bone, I think I commented last year on your political rhetoric. Please, not again. As far as Obama having terrorist ties that is BS. Leave it to Right Fright to start getting the best of the the Conservatives.
Hey T-Bone, do you have a passport? It seems that all of the conservatives who don't travel, have friends of different ethnicities or religious backgrounds, and who stay in their comfort zones think Obama has terrorist ties. The man is multiracial and has a mother and father of different ethnicities and religious backgrounds. Why is it so hard for some dumb Americans to understand. I am an American and truly embarrassed about some of the behavior and comments that I am seeing out of these so called "patriotic Republicans".
The Right is a sick lot. I truly believe that you all are born that way. The Republicans of today are not what Republicans used to be like 10 or even 15 years ago. Ever since dumb ass W took office they have been replaced by bigoted, ignorant, mean-spirited ,clueless, blind people who really believe they are right in their way of thinking. It scares the crap out of me and I am sure it does also the people in this country who want things to be better and to benefit everyone.
T-Bone, McCain is mean and nasty and has used BS tactics to get his moot point across. Obama has class and carries himself with grace. And don't forget, he is HALF WHITE.
MikeinSanJose says:
It's cuz of that horrifying green jacket.
She's not intelligent enough to have an opinion beyond what they feed her at church and on Faux News.
Julie says:
Is that a housecoat she's wearing?
cAROL says:
Whooppi, you are inspiration to the show and keep things moving in the right direction. Your response about the resturant show on all AAA's isn't always correct. You never know what might be lurking in that kitchen. Sometimes you have to go a little further with your investigation. As a previous employee in the service industry, A isn't always an A!
marcus says:
T-Bone...Its true that none of her cohorts respects her "positions", but its not becuase they arent worthy or respect (they arent) its because they arent "positions". They are talking points that she, like a myna bird, has accumlated from hearing them over and over and over. I suspect if she wasnt on that show, she would never hear a different opinion. and BTW, getting onstage with the sarah "winky the whackjob" palins traveling sideshow & political pole dance, dosent lend her anymore credibility. No,if "sassy" hasselback is a cartoon, its because she works hard at being one. Its a good living, from the money point of view.
M says:
It's funny how the repubs make these claims like T-Bone. Elisabeth is just like Palin and thanks to people like Palin/Mccain, Obama is receiving much larger scale death threats than Elisabeth will ever encounter. She spoke her lies and repuke dribble at racist inciting rallies like Palin's and what does she expect? flowers and candy with nice comments in cards...? it is coming back to her and it will palin/mccain too. they only knew how to take the low road to this race and low is what u get back. i dont wish death on either elisabeth and certainly not obama. but i will never agree with elisabeth's screwy hypocritical views.
