Prince Harry, who has himself served on the front lines in the Middle East, pledged to buy a drink for Royal Marine Ben McBean when the double amptutee successfully scaled to the top of an 18-foot climbing wall.
The two served together in Afghanistan, where McBean lost an arm and a leg during combat. The 21-year-old Plymouth native was joined by four other climbers at an event to kick off the Exercise Khumbu Challenge to Mount Everest base camp. The training will provide wounded soldiers the opportunity to rehabilitate while participating in a military-style environment.
Before McBean began his ascent, Harry called out, "No pressure Ben, I'll buy you a beer if you reach the top." I have a feeling he's good for it.
