The actor who left Grey's Anatomy amidst a storm of controversy regarding his use of a homophobic slur is speaking out against ABC's decision to firing Grey's actress Brooke Smith.
Isaiah Washington claims that the reason Smith was let go is because of the lesbian storyline in which her character Dr. Erica Hahn had become engaged.
Washington compared his departure to Smith's in an interview with TV Guide, "You look at the way another consummate professional [is] being treated because her character, her story line [has] potentially made producers uncomfortable." Isaiah added that he would be more than happy to return to the show, if extended the offer.
The show's creator Shonda Rhimes denies that Brooke was fired for playing a lesbian saying, "We did not find that the magic and chemistry with Brooke's character would sustain in the long run."
