Raking in a hefty $70.6 million the audience was estimated to be 75% female and the largest opening ever for a film directed by a woman.
The teenage vampire flick was originally expected to pull in $60 million at most, but "word of mouth" helped bring in that $10.6 million.

Yeah, there is some seriously messed up psychological aspects to this whole craze. I mean it's obvious that Bella is the personification of who Meyer wishes she was (i.e. look how similar their appearances are) and wishes Edward would whisk her away into fairyland. Same with all the 13-year-old girls. It's just a non-sensical sexual fantasy.
