The Grammy Nominations!

Share
Nominations for the 51st Annual Grammy Awards were announced during a special Grammy Nominations Concert last night at the Nokia Theatre LA Live featuring performances by Christina Aguilera, John Mayer, The Foo Fighters and Mariah Carey. And rapper Lil' Wayne seems poised to bum rush the Grammys this year.

Wayne's album Tha Carter III has gone five times platinum and he received eight nominations, including Album of the Year and Rap Album. Gwyneth Paltrow's favorite band (or maybe not) Coldplay, came in second with seven.

Besides Lil' Wayne, Album of the Year nods went to Coldplay, Radiohead (don't get confused, they are actually two different bands), Ne-Yo, and Alison Krauss & Robert Plant.

Leona Lewis' smash hit "Bleeding Love" is up for Record of the Year, as well as contributions from Adele, Coldplay, Allison Krauss & Robert Plant, and M.I.A. "Paper Planes" is the greatest song to hit the planet since "Let It Be" so she needs that Grammy.

Jonas Brothers brought the virginal quality to the Best New Artist category, and they'll be competing against Adele, Duffy, Lady Antebellum, and Jazmine Sullivan.

In some surprising snubs, countrified darling Taylor Swift and toothy Disney employee Miley Cyrus were boxed completely out of the noms.

And Jennifer Hudson, who had a tragic year, received three nominations, including one for Best R&B Album for her self-titled debut.

I was also disappointed with Taylor being left out of the nominations, but it turns out her new album is ineligible because it was released after the September 30th cutoff date for consideration. Unfortunately, Miley's snub doesn't have the same explanation...
