The Broadcast Film Critics Association votes for the awards, and the nominations and winners are usually good indicators as to who's going to end up with Oscar gold.
Heath Ledger's swan song The Dark Knight, Meryl Streep's suspicious nun drama Doubt and Danny Boyle's Indian gameshow fantasy Slumdog Millionaire each earned six nominations each.
The Association votes for TEN pictures for Best Picture every year (they don't want to leave anyone out), and this year's list (in addition to the above list) includes Changeling, Frost/Nixon, The Reader, WALL-E and The Wrestler.
Best Actor nods went to Clint Eastwood (Gran Torino), Richard Jenkins (The Visitor), Frank Langella (Frost/Nixon), Sean Penn (Milk), Brad Pitt (Button) and Mickey Rourke (The Wrestler).
And the ladies? Cate Blanchett was nominated for Best Actress for Button, along with Kate Beckinsale (Nothing but the Truth), Anne Hathaway (Rachel Getting Married), Angelina Jolie (Changeling), Melissa Leo (Frozen River) and Meryl Streep (Doubt).
The winners will be announced Jan. 8 at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, and broadcast on VH1.
