There's been a lot of speculation about whether or not John Travolta was giving Jett proper care for the seizures brought on by his autism or Kawaski syndrome.
The naysayers loooove to say John was loyal to Scientology's distaste for medicine. They also say this neglect is what brought on the death of his son who hit his head on a bathtub after suffering a violent seizure.
However, TMZ reports the Travolta's put Jett on Depakote, a very strong mood stabilizer and anti-seizure medication for years that reduced the spells from once every four days to once every few weeks or so. After a while, however, the medication lost it's effect and the Travolta's terminated the use.
In more evidence Jett may actually have been autistic, The New York Daily News quotes Dr. Geri Dawson, chief scientist at Autism Speaks, as saying the death rate for autistic teens doubles due to seizures.

Jay says:
I really wish I could understand everyone's obsession with whether or not Jett was autistic.
You do not die from Autism.
Jett was being treated for his seizures. Maybe someone dropped the ball on replacing the Depakote, but that can happen, regardless of their religion or diagnosis.
Again, what's the obsession? It's like the Autism activists and the anti-Scientology activists just want Jett for their own personal poster child.
No one even knows what causes Autism, there are tons of kids who are not autistic being labeled as such.
Why does Jett need that label? One which not even the "experts" really understand.
All these armchair doctors diagnosing a kid theyve' never met. What purpose does that serve?
Josey says:
I guess in socialite heaven where no matter which way you turn you can smell some celebrities butt, this passes as "news".
JA says:
My deepest sympathy to the family - I cannot imagine what a gap this loss will create in your lives. As the parent of a child w/ a seizure disorder, I would like to comment on just how difficult it is to control seizures. Over the past 23 years my child has been prescribed no less than 15 seizure medications. Trying to get these meds "in balance" is virtually impossible and their side effects are debilitating. The stress on caregivers is unimaginable.
This angel has gone to Heaven - My prayer are for his family.
me says:
Scientologists or not, this just seems mean to be insinuating they caused his death. It was an accident, I doubt his parents wanted him to die. I can't even imagine the pain of losing a child, I hope for their sakes they're not aware of what is being said-how awful for them.
Kevin says:
With all that we know about the Travolta family, it is a hate crime, to accuse a loving family of anything. There is that side of John Travolta's life that people know nothing about. Except that he always appeared as a loving father, I'm very sorry for his loss, and a part of me is just, as sad that he will never be the same again. Because, I have always loved him!
Anon says:
Jett had seizures and possibly Kawasaki disease/syndrome. If Depakote did not work, then there are many other anticonvulsants Jett could have taken.
kk says:
autism and seizures do not go hand in hand - seizures are not even part of the criteria for diagnosing the condition. they have been open about his having kawasaki disease so why would they hide autism?
Madolyn says:
To JA: Yes you're right. Seizure medications just suppress the seizures (= symptoms) but they do not cure the real reasons for the disease. And with time, they stop working even for that.
Based on positive experiences of myself and quite a few people I know, I would sincerely recommend that you stop poisoning your child with synthetic chemicals because, like you said, the side effects are horrible, and try the natural way instead. What do you have to lose? The protocol prescribes the use of high doses of folate (800 mcg per day), always accompanied by B-complex; fish oil (due to high content of mega-3 fats adn vitamin D), zinc gluconate (10 to 15 mg per day), Vitamin E with Selenium, vitamin C and amino acid Taurine. All these things are quite inexpensive and have no enwanted side effects. And then there is also the latest herbal cure, Bacopa monniera.
Some children are quickly completely cured while others are not cured but experience astonishing improvement. My son now only has a seizure every 3 months - which is much better than what Jett's family could achieve with Depakote ...
God Bless you and I wish you all the best for your son.
Madolyn says:
Sorry, that was unwanted (not enwanted ...)
I forgot to add that not only the seizures now only happen every 3 months, but they also last just 10 to 15 seconds now (before it used to be 2 minutes or more.)

dear john&kelly, my heart goes out to you both& your daughter. I am so,so, sorry,no parent should have to bury their child . Emma says:
I really do not see why everybody is saying stuff about autism here. Not only is there no evidence for saying that Jett was austistic, but it also is not at all relevant. Jett died of a seizure, not of autism.
Jett clearly suffered from very bad seizures, and I'm very sure that the Travolta's did absolutely everything they could do to keep him healthy. I have heard also that Jett had caretakers with him all the time - it is very sad that something like this had to happen to such a young boy and to such loving, devoted parents.
May John and Kelly find strength in each other to go on living.

I feel so terrible for the family. They do appear to be such loving parents.I wonder how long their son was without his medicine. I read that it was working but then it stopped working so he stopped taking it...why would a doctor allow that?? With my son's anti-seizure meds, it stops him from having seizures until over time he needs the dose increased. When he has a break thru seizure on the meds that's when it is usually increased. I'm wondering why he wasn't taking anything.
