A tipster claims Phoenix has said, "It's a put-on. I'm going to pretend to have a meltdown and change careers, and Casey is going to film it."
The butt of the joke is intended to be self-indulgent actors, as well as gossip-hungry media. I can sort of appreciate his efforts, but the truth is that farce died with reality television.
If he can pull off a stunt more ridiculous and over-the-top than something I can easily find on Brett Michaels' Rock of Love Tour Bus, then maybe I'll be impressed. Either way, we get hits reporting on it, so thanks Joaquin!

Champ Burger says:
The whole make-believe...masquerading as reality...to taunt the press...and parody fame...act has been done. Remember Andy Kaufman?
Just substitute {rap} for {wrestling}. It's been done.
