Etta James now says the whole Obama-has-big-ears-and-Beyoncé-is-gonna-get-an-ass- whupping tirade, was just a silly, harmless joke.
"I didn't really mean anything," she told the New York Daily News. "Even as a little child, I've always had that comedian kind of attitude. ... That's probably what went into it."
That's probably what went into it? Be honest, Etta. How do you really feel about Beyon-whatever-her-name-is, singing "At Last" your signature song?
And bravo for attempting to make a funny about the president. Even Chris Rock said that was impossible.

said she liked Beyoncé's performance, but when asked if she thought she
could have done better, James answered, "I think so. That's a shame to

And I don't think Etta James is backpedalling. I think she was half-joking, and has every right to feel slighted. I realize the timing of the whole thing plays a big part in this. Beyonce is basically still promoting her movie about Etta James and was asked to sing at the inauguration. So why not sing that song? It's a legendary song. It would have been respectful, though, to ask Etta James's permission and/or do a duet. Come to think of it, DID Beyonce need permission to perform the song? I wonder.

Etta James should be ashamed of her self for being so nasty about the situation. Obvisously, it was okay when Beyonce was in the movie to help document Etta's legacy. Etta should be greatful, aftertall Beyonce is a dynamic young woman with a lot of talent and should be encouraged, not the opposit. Where is the repect for young women (and young men) who have picked of the mantle to success and are handling it extremely well. Give credit where credit has been earned! Etta should apologize to B.
