Although the young actors portraying the young crew of the Starship Enterprise drew upon the influence of the original cast, moviegoers will find an added element of comedy in this new version that wasn't as prevalent in the original.
Director J.J. Abrams explained, "As I keep warning people. Star Trek has a definite sense of humour these days." With that in mind, the bridge is equipped with handrails as a result of Ensign Chekov's consistent inability to throw up defensive shields in time. Tee hee!
Also, in the film, we get a special glimpse at the human mother of half-Vulcan Spock played by Winona Ryder. Zachary Quinto had to go without eyebrows for six months during filming to play Spock, but has since become good friends with Leonard Nimoy, who originally reprised the role. As for Chris Pine, who is a young, hot Captain Kirk, he did his best to capture his character's cocky swagger without doing a straight-up William Shatner impersonation.
All in all, it sounds pretty sexy.
