Woah! Major upset! Kris Allen has won American Idol, beating season favorite and front runner Adam Lambert.
Allen, 23, fumbled for words upon winning after a record 100 million votes were cast on TV's biggest show.
"Are you freakin' serious? It feels good man, but uh, Adam deserves this. I'm sorry I don't even know what to feel right now," he said."This is crazy. Thank you so much."
The flamboyant Californian, Lambert, 27, had the edge from the show's judges almost from the start of the season and seemed to be promoted over all the other candidates throughout.
Lambert, who brought a theatrical style with him, earned a solo cover on Entertainment Weekly, top sales on iTunes and even guest artist Katy Perry embroidered "Adam Lambert" on her cape in a performance last week.
Lambert had one of the biggest performances on the two hour finale Wednesday as well, dueting with Kiss, while Allen did a typically lower key duet with Keith Urban. But in the end it was the business major and former missionary who edged the rocker with fingernails painted black.
As "Idol," Allen wins a recording contract and his version of the coronation song "No Boundaries" will be released (he also gets a trophy, a new addition to the show in its eighth season).
But both finalists will likely be top recording stars. "In the eyes of the nation, both are victorious," host Ryan Seacrest said.

Poor Adam...he really gave it all he had and he so deserved to win! I can't believe this...it sure seems like that show is rigged, building Adam up like they did all those weeks only to have him get beat by a guy with virtually no talent at all!

WOW!!!!! America you got it ALL WRONG!!! Everytime Kris performed I almost fell asleep!! COme on!!! It has to be rigged cause I just don't believe the American People are that stupid!!!! Adam had more talent than most artists out there right now!! I don't really like the rock side of Adam..more like the slow song but either way he isn't even in the same category as Kris...Kris should of been off the show weeks ago!!! He has NO stage presence and really is boring as hell to watch!! If this wasn't rigged than American has some serious issues...DO YOU KNOW WHAT TALENT IS AMERICAN??????..OBVIOUSLY NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! America doesn't always like "different", unfortunately. They kinda like the color "beige" (ie; Taylor Hicks etc...) I, on the other hand, think this was a bad choice. Yeah -- he'll make it and do ok, but it won't be anything interesting. There are a million "Chris's" in the world. They should have chosen Adam.

THANK GOODNESS!! I pretty much stopped watching the show after Anoop left but seriously..apart from Adam putting on a good show..his voice was like nails on a chalkboard or swallowing razor blades..it was NOT GOOD!!! Kris is like luke warm water but I'd take him over Adam anyday. Majority rules and clearly the majority voted Kris..and I agree with them. I'm sure all those Adam lovers will get an album out of him anyway.

Adam you are sooo awesome and sooo incredibly talented and a very good sport about all this I commend you on that. You were robbed, you should and are in my opinion Americas American Idol. Kris, a nice guy but soooo boring, should have gone home weeks ago, Danny should of been in the final 2. Adam you have a huge career and future ahead of you, Kris on the other hand will be Kris who? 6 months from now. I have deleted American Idol off my show watching list, until they do something with the voting, so this kinda of stuff doesn't happen again. They need to have a voting system like Dancing with the Stars where the the judges actually gives a score and a voice, and the public votes as well,it is a 50/50 thing. It is almost now like America does not listen to the judges and just votes the opposite of what they say. Also it has become a Popularity show not a singing Talent show, I think America has forgotten this is a Singing Competition show, not a popularity contest. Get real people, and quit judging people because they are gay. Who cares what someones personal life is about I could care less, I'm judging him on Talent, and he has a whole lot, besides aawesome singer, the guy is really good looking, very photogenic, and could be a model, he is the whole package deal. Go Adam you Rock!!! I will be looking for your CD when it comes out.
