Rumors have spread that Britain's Got Talent contestant Susan Boyle is cracking under the pressure that her international fame has brought her.
A report claims Boyle stomped off angrily from the lobby of the Wembley Plaza Hotel after watching fellow competitor 12-year-old Shaheen Jafargholi receive accolades during the live semi-final. Her publicist claims the story is untrue, although another report claims her tirade continued into a full-on meltdown in front of guests.
In response, one of the show's judges, Piers Morgan, has spoken up to defend Boyle. On his official blog, Morgan penned an essay entitled, "In defence of Susan Boyle," and says, "Susan is finding it very, very difficult to cope, and to stay calm."
Piers explains, "She has been in tears many times during the last few days, and even, fleetingly, felt like quitting the show altogether at one point and fleeing all the attention...
"I am calling today for everyone to give her a break," the reality television fixture pleads. What can we tell ya? Fame's a bitch.

Never give up, Susan! We're supportive of you and grateful to you! It's so wonderful that you happen to come along on the world stage. You're refreshing! Go ahead, Susan, and scream back at the reporters; they've got it coming. You just keep being real and angelic.
T-Bone says:
I know nothing about this Susan Boyle, other than apparently she can sing. But does she have all her marbles? I mean, is she mentally all there? Just wondering.
Amy says:
T-bone, I seem to remember reading that she has developmental issues, so perhaps she needs some special consideration?

I've concluded that Susan is both very sweet and quite combative -- with poor impulse control. Whether or not she wins on Saturday, she'll have a profitable and satisfying career in music if she'll only clean up her act: no more expletives, no more hip wiggles, and no more rushing up to give wet kisses to the likes of Piers Morgan! Piers appears to be a shill for Simon and a false friend to Susan. (After all, he wound her up by saying that she was bested in the BGT semi-finals by a child singer.) At one time, Susan was a sure bet to win. No suspense there! As far as Simon was concerned, that wouldn't do -- so now we have this manufactured crisis with Piers as Susan's "Job's comforter" and possible abettor of the Tabloid Press to which he used to belong. Yes, it's compelling theater; but it's also cruelly hard on a talented woman-child from the hinterland. After all, Susan was a worthwhile person before the world noticed her and will remain so if the world ever turns its back on her. The sad thing is that Susan seems to have low self-esteem which leaves her open to being hurt, again and again, because she believes that her "worth" is a gift that can be bestowed or withdrawn by others instead of something which she has already demonstrated by sacrificing the possibility of an early career in music to care for her aging parents.

What this story doesn't say is that she was harrassed and bullied by a couple of reporters. We can only imagine what they said, but no doubt she was deeply hurt, after all she's been through with the "she's so ugly we can't believe she has talent" bull***t.
nicola says:
it must be really difficult for these instantly famous people. usually artists have to work for years for this type of adulation.

Pierse Morgan and Simon Cowell are the ones that have run to all the talk shows pushing Susan Boyle. They are the ones using her to put more money in their pockets. She is a nice lady with a beautiful voice being used by these two British greedy snobs. Look at how Donald Braswell on last America's Got Talent was treated by Pierse Morgan and Sharon Osbourne. Braswell has one of the most beautiful voices of today, yet, these two Brit snobs treated him like dirt. Like Susan, Donald is a kind humble soul with a voice of gold.

Susan Boyle didn't "give up her singing career to take care of her parents." She was financially dependent and lived at home.
Success is usually earned through blood, sweat and tears.
For whatever reason, Susan Boyle never "went for it." She stayed safely at home.
Sorry, but show business stars bust their butts to get where they are. Success takes hard, hard work & risk & failure & trying again...

I remember Donald Braswell from last year. He was amazing but for some reason the Judges (except the "Hoff") were unpleasant and patronizing to him, they even criticized his song choice whereas in fact he was told what he had to sing so that was absurd. I'm English, but I was ashamed of Osborne and Morgan for their treatment of this extraordinary singer and exemplary man, it was nothing to do with his singing (which was stunning), it was obviously all planned in advance. The show is becoming a farce with its extreme treatment of the contestants and its rigged results.

Sorry,"fran," but I never claimed that Susan "g[a]ve up her singing career to take care of her parents." I do agree that Susan "was financially dependent and lived at home." Where we differ is that I don't find that this detracts from Susan's worth. Born and raised in Scotland of Irish immigrants, Susan behaved like the typical, dutiful "Irish Catholic youngest daughter of a large family"; she chose to keep house for her aging parents rather than relocate to a city where she could have found paid work as a singer.
Nor do I agree with the implication that all "show business stars [who] bust their butts to get where they are" resent Susan's overnight international success. Both Elaine Paige and Patti LuPone have been publicly supportive. They know that Susan poses no threat to young performers eager to climb onto the musical theater treadmill of 8 performances per 6-day week. Rather, they see interest in Susan as contributing to increased ticket sales for productions of "Les Mis" and "Cats".
Henry David Thoreau famously observed that "[m]ost men lead lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with the song still in them." How sweet it is that, at last, if she doesn't self-destruct, Susan has the chance to have her "song" heard.
Eva says:
Susan Boyle is proof that Nature plays no favourites! Many people admire her and would be interested to follow up on her successes because she is a symbol of hope in our present generation. However, the long gown she wore at the final competition made her look 20 yrs older. They should try to make her look 10 yrs younger.
