You know what I love? When celebrities try to legitimize themselves in the film world by directing something fun and abstract. Come on, you must know what I'm talking about?
The latest celeb to attempt this is Scarlett Johansson, whose short film These Vagabond Shoes is premiering on the opening night of LA Shorts Fest '09. The festival is recognized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as a qualifying fest for Oscar consideration, so someone could end up with an Oscar.
According to the LA Shorts Fest website, the film, starring Kevin Bacon, is about "The tranquility of solitude breaks through the cacophony of the city as a man (Kevin Bacon) makes his way across Manhattan to the sea at Coney Island - witnessing the majesty, magic and wonder of the city and its inhabitants, as they pass him by." Fun!
I'm quite proud of Scarlett for taking on the directing role. I like her, so I hope it's a good short film. Wait, but what if it sucks? Ooh, poor Scarlett.
LA Shorts Fest '09 runs July 23-31 at the Sunset 5 Laemmle Theater in West Hollywood. If you live in LA you should go check it out. You can see Scarlett there on opening night!
