Jeremy Piven may be thought of as a household name, but his latest film The Good: Live hard, Sell Hard is his first leading man role. While in Philadelphia promoting the film, Jeremy chatted about his hectic schedule and his television and film career.
After promoting the film non-stop for the past few weeks, Jeremy is practically out of it. "I'm teetering," he says. "I don't think I'm doing the right things. I think I'm just - I'm about to hit the wall, as my character, Don Ready, does in the movie. You know what I mean? I may wander off. You may find me on the Liberty Bell, just barking and stark naked."
The film is about a used-car liquidator who is hired to help save a failing car lot. For fans of the show Entourage, the character of Don Ready may evoke some memories of my favorite Hollywood agent, Ari Gold. "I probably did 40 movies before I even started Entourage. . . . But Ari has dominated for a couple of years now, and now I think Don Ready will, because there are so many quotable lines in The Goods. People are already starting to quote these lines and scream things out: 'Party at my house! Everyone's welcome! No guys!' or 'MC Hammer is so broke, he's living in the left leg of his Hammer pants.'"
Yet, we'll also notice that we haven't Jeremy in many films where his name is the main header. "I'd been looking for that for a while, yeah," he says about leading man status. "I've been lucky enough to have played opposite a lot of actors that have been carrying films for years, and learning how they conduct themselves and how they navigate through a leading performance. So some of it maybe seeped in through osmosis, and some of it [from] just standing around hoping they would breathe on me."
People only seem to know him as the quick talking, head honcho kind of guy, but Jeremy knows he has a different side to his acting abilities. "It's fascinating to me when you have a director, or a producer, or a writer who wants to know if I can do something other than Ari. I don't have to play characters that take up all the oxygen," he says. "I simply don't." He played a less oxygen needing character in Speed The Plow on Broadway. Sadly, mercury poisoning forced him to leave the production. Now that was some dramatic stuff!
Wanna know my favorite Jeremy Piven role? He has like one line in the 1980's flick Say Anything. If you're not watching closely, you don't even notice it's him. I love Entourage, but I'm glad I'll get to see him on the big screen after awhile. He's kinda hot, don't you think? Look at him at the premiere of The Goods. Bravo Mr. Piven. You and the rest of the awesome celebs there are looking quite nice.
