Jon Hamm is obviously one of the sexiest men on television right now. Personally, I think the Mad Men star is made even hotter by the fact that he is truly a down to earth, sweet, and thoroughly entertaining kind of guy. When he sat down to chat with Vanity Fair, all of our favorite Jon Hamm qualities shown through. Are you ready for Jon Hamm to get just a little bit hotter?
Remember how incredibly funny he was on Saturday Night Live? Who knew the mysterious Don Draper could be so funny? It was almost as if he'd done live TV before. Had he? "No, not on purpose. But I was just thrilled, because I've been watching Saturday Night Live since I can remember--since I was little, little kid. My dad would have these crazy 70s parties. But I would just park myself in front of the television, a huge 25-inch television, and watch Saturday Night Live, and all this weirdness was going on around me. So, yeah, so I had a pretty significant history, personal history, with SNL."
For Jon, Mad Men came as kind of a fluke. "I had a horrible pilot season that year and one of the last ones to come down the pike was Mad Men. I looked at it and I was like, AMC? They don't even make television shows--what is this going to be? But the script was really interesting, and we did it. And as I've said many, many times before, I was on the bottom of everybody's list. Like, I started at the very bottom. But to Matt Weiner's great credit, he was very tenacious in fighting for me." Thank god he did. Can you imagine Don Draper without him?
Although, life on the Mad Men set hasn't been easy. During the first season of the show, Jon sustained two pretty horrible injuries. The first came when a piece of set fell on his head and cracked it open. "Oh, yeah, it was a pretty big cut. Head wounds, I gather, are bleeders. I was like, "Oh, shit! What the fuck happened?" And everybody was like, uh uh uh. I started taking my jacket off, making sure it didn't get blood on it." He would care about his jacket. The second came from attempting to jump and land on a pad in a flashback scene. During the rehearsal, he hit his hand a little too hard, and by the end of the day it was extremely swollen and obviously broken.
That one didn't end there though. After getting a removable cast on his hand so they could continue shooting, he has some problems with one scene in particular. He'd told his cast mate Elisabeth Moss not to actually shake his had in her promotion scene, sadly, she thought he was kidding so only firm handshakes from this girl. "It was just like lightning bolts of pain, like I was almost driven to my knees. And she let go, and she was like, 'Oh, my God! What did I do? What did I do?' I was like, 'I told you not to shake my hand.' She was like, 'I thought you were kidding.' [Laughs.] Like what kind of joke would that be? Like, oh, it was going to be hilarious, a fake handshake"
Don't worry Jon. If you ever get hurt again I'll be right there to kiss your booboo and make it all better. I promise.
