Singer Shakira will be shimmying her hips on Ugly Betty in a cameo on the ABC comedy series. The Colombian pop star (incidentally, the country where Ugly Betty originated) will be playing herself and according to E! Online she ""will be shooting her scenes in New York, but they will [appear] in the Bahamas episode--which will most likely air in November."
Show runner, Silvio Horta tells People magazine that it was a scene from the third episode, in which Betty "struts down to street to 'Hips Don't Lie'" after a botched makeover that inspired the casting decision.
Horta explains, "[Shakira's] an enormous Latina icon, as is Betty, and we thought it was a perfect fit." Sort of like this fetching black and white frock she's wearing while promoting her new album in Paris.
