Oh dear, the balloon hit the fan. Richard Henne and his wife Mayumi Henne better be prepared because the couple is going to be charged for staging the hoax up to at least two weeks in advance.
"The hoax [was] a planned event for at least two weeks to launch this space craft in order to gain media publicity," says Larimer County Sheriff James Alderden. "To create a situation where it appeared Falcon was in the craft and his life was in danger with an ultimate goal of...obtaining a contract to do a reality show."
The charges will include filing a false report, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, attempting to influence a public servant and conspiracy, and could result in a maximum sentence of six years in prison and a $500,000 fine including restitution for all of the expenses the country incurred.
The kids won't do any hard time. "The children were 100 percent involved and had guilty knowledge," says Alderden. "Given the age of the children, I seriously doubt they will face any criminal charges."
Child protective services have been notified about the Heene's situation and will be conducting their own investigation into the high-flying family to determine if the parents are fit to raise the three children.
How fricking stupid are those parents? They may lose there kids due to their desire to be on TV and in the spotlight. All of this for the deep need to have a reality show. Idiots.

This is such a sad story. I feel sorry for these young children who do not have strong role models to guide them through life. When I saw these wackadoodles on wife swap two years ago I knew they were insane. This ballon hoax is no suprise but they should have left these innocent children out of this!
Catherine says:
This was so obviously a hoax from the beginning.
What a sad excuse for a family. They expolit their kids just to try and get a reality show? His inventions look shit, and they have ugly children.
No one would watch their show anyways....
Im not even American and I was getting sick of seeing it all over our news.

Our Fault says:
If our society didn't glorify people who do stupid things, putting them on talk shows, giving them TV shows for being alive then we wouldn't have people like these people doing ever increasingly stupid and dangerous things to get attention. When we stop glorifying people who shouldn't be glorified then we might have less of these types of incidents. I doubt it though. Everyone is looking for their 15 minutes and the public is stupid enough to give it to them.
Esther Ahonen says:
Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty? Hanging these people on a scared and confused six year olds vague comment on tv and the statement of a man paid to make it? Come on America, have you lost your mind?

The reality TV alure is the fault of this whole thing. Average everyday people are getting paid millions of dollars per year to be filmed basically doing nothing. Shows like The Hills, Laguna Beach, Jon and Kate Plus 8, Little People Big World, The House Wives of Orange County etc. have turned people with no talents or entertainment value what so ever into paparazzi chased, limo riding celebrities. I still do not get why people are so sucked into these shows. I heard that one of the recent episodes of Jon and Kate Plus 8 focused on her cleaning and organizing her basement...no joke...that was the show..watching her move boxs and rearrange shelfs (and she supposedly was paid $75,000 to do it)!! Until the reality genre dies you are still going to have celebrity wannabes, like the Heenes, using any and all method possibles, ethical and unethical, to get themselves noticed for a shot at all of this reckless money being thrown at no talents by the TV production companies.

How pathetic! Yes, their children should definitely be taken away from them until they prove they can be decent parents to them. This is as much abuse as there can be toward children! American television has been dummying down their audience for many years now, producing shows that are of the lowest common denominator - not surprising that the lunatics would feel right at home and want a show of their own - they watch other lunatics with their own show on tv every day!

If you don't want to attract this kind of junk - stop producing it! This family should definitely lose their children - this abuse is not different than someone who pretends their child is dying of cancer in order to make money - same thing, just different packaging!
