In case you were wondering
Where the Wild Things Are,
they're on top. The
Spike Jonze feature based on the
Maurice Sendak's children's book led the pack this weekend, ahead of
Law Abiding Citizen and
Couples Retreat, earning $32.5 million. It looks like parents weren't turned off by Sendak's
damning them and their concerns to hell.
This weekend's opening numbers beat out the total domestic runs of Jonze's first two feature films, but hopefully ticket sales will stay on track for the $80 million dollar movie. It might help that the
18 and over crowd is getting in on the action. When I was a kid I remember wondering what the big deal was about this book and the trailer really creeped me out, but I was clearly in the minority among my friends.
What about you, will you go see Wild Things?

@Mouse, I don't think anybody or anything dies in the end. I saw the movie over the weekend and thought it was fantastic. The wild things' costumes were really well done, I'm glad they weren't all computer generated.
