Paul Wesley Dissects The Characters Of 'The Vampire Diaries'

The CW's newest drama, The Vampire Diaries, has been picked up for another season, according to Variety.com.  The freshman hit has become the network's most-watched series and is No. 2 behind Gossip Girl for women ages 18-34.

Paul Wesley, who plays vampire delicioso Stefan Salvatore, offered up his take on the main characters to MTV News.  First, there's evil brother Damon (Ian Somerhalder), whose very nature is to feed on humans. Damon is also superhot.

"'He's consumed in being a vampire and power and he really believes that feeding on humans ... it's just as simple and natural as breathing. He doesn't understand,' he said. 'There's no guilt, which is fascinating.'"

Then there's poor Stefan, who is off human blood and one helluva tortured soul.

"'Stefan is fully aware of hurting others and harm, and so for him he's, like, always unhappy,' he said. 'It's almost like someone who's dependent on some sort of drug and then being in rehab, and you're never the same.'"

I like the show and news of a second season is great to hear.  I just have a few teeny issues with Diaries.  In one episode, Stefan awoke from a nightmare.  Anyone who knows their vampires knows that they don't sleep.  In another scene of the same episode, both Stefan and Damon were drinking alcohol. Vampires don't eat or drink (except blood, natch).  I should mention that everything I learned about vampires I learned from Twilight.  Ergo, I am well-versed in vampire.

LOL! I really really hope you're meaning this as a joke!!

You should have listened to Damon Salvatore. In one episode he is paging through a Twilight book and comments how she got it all wrong. He misses Anne Rice who get it all right.

HOT!

The vampires in "Twilight" don't sleep, but Meyer's take on vampires does not do away with centuries of vamp-lore where they do sleep. C'mon, Paul.

Really? You learned about vampires from Twilight? Then YOU have it all wrong. Ever seen Buffy or read Anne Rice or even Dracula, the original? No? Then go and inform yourself, please, before you embarass yourself further. If we're really going to get into the argument of who's wrong or right, then it would S. Meyer who has it wrong, and you.

If everything you know about vampires is from Twilight, then you don't know vampires. You know sparkling pixies. You are not well-versed in vampires. Read a real vampire book.

So you read "Twilight" in order to understand "Vampire Diaries"? Are you kidding???? Aren't those books from two different authors??? Do you remember "Buffy, The Vampire Slayer"? Do you remember "Angel"? Do you remember the characters of Angel and Spike who can eat and drink? How can you say you know Vampire Lore??? What a weird way to end this article which was pretty good with the Paul Wesley interview. It's like the writer doesn't know how else to end this piece so he or she throws something stupid in the end.

Sorry your readers are daft and can't take a joke.

I guess all of this would matter if vampires were real 'cause it wouldn't be very responsible to publish information that might lead to someone getting hurt 'cause they didn't know the real vampiral feeding/sleeping/coiffing/dying habits. But they're not, so it doesn't.

A story-teller's favorite tools are imagination, creativity, and freedom to take their stories wherever the heck they want. Why would anyone want to hear/watch/read carbon copy stories about vampires from a dozen different story-makers who each have unique perspectives? What makes similar stories different/unique is what makes them interesting. Who cares if vampires dream or eat regular food? I think that's refreshing. And whoever decided not to cake on the fake vampire complexions should be thanked for avoiding another exhausted cliche.

BTW - Twilight = vampire-expert, good funny.

I'm pretty sure the writer was joking. Calm down everyone. These are vampires we're talking about.

This thread is getting HEATED!!! AHAHAAHAA
Wow, you people really need to lay off the O Positive and relaxxxx

Very timely with Halloween coming up

OOOOKKAYYY CHILDRENNN

this intelligent author of this piece has a sense of humor. Perhaps some of the readers who have posted such, well shall I say, heated, posts, need to simma down now. There are many different takes on vampires and I believe Kelly was just trying to lighten the MOOD. gee wow why would anybody have a sense of humor?

I think we can all learn from this author to take the old chill pill and just enjoy vampires.

Or is that a no no for everyone?

oh yeah, i heart edward cullen

Vampires aren't even real so it doesn't matter if they eat or don't eat or sleep or don't sleep. It's all part of the imagination like others have already said. Some people really do take themselves too seriously.
