2009 BET Awards Winners Remember Michael Jackson

Most of yesterday's BET Awards were dedicated to remembering late pop superstar Michael Jackson, but as they say, the show must go on. And a slew of stars crossed the stage Sunday evening to accept their prizes for the year.

Beyonce Knowles
, who brought the audience to tears with an emotional rendition of "Ave Maria," snagged video of the year for "Single Ladies, as well as Best Female R&B artist. Best Actor and Actress went to Will Smith and Taraji P. Henson, respectively. Best Male R&B Artist was Ne-Yo, who performed a cover of Michael Jacdkson's Lady in My Life during the evening's festivities.

Best Male & Female Hip-Hop Artists were Lil Wayne and M.I.A. and we're not sure if Lil Mama won some kind of fashion award for her interesting hair and outfit combo, but she should have.

Meanwhile, Alicia Keys was all dark, wavy ringlets and beading in her mini-dress. The singer was one of many stars who mentioned the King of Pop during the evening's festivities. Sean Combs said simply that Jackson "made [him] believe in magic.

The full list of winners is after the jump.

Wanda Sykes Rocks 2009 White House Correspondents Dinner

The comedian took to the pulpit in front of the crowd of famous faces. Sykes teased President Barack Obama about the numerous shirtless pictures of him in the media, his basketball games and managed to touch upon issues of race and politics with an edge that only Wanda can deliver.

Girlfriend did not pull any punches and I'm not doing them justice here in this blog post. You'll have to watch them for yourselves.

It was an impressive array of celebrities in the audience, but none whose smiles were bigger than the President and First Lady Michelle Obama.

Michelle Obama Brings High-Profile Women Back To High School

Alicia Keys and Sheryl Crow are two ladies who've found fame because of real talent and business savvy, unlike, well, other things.  So the vocal pair were natural picks to join Michelle Obama in helping young women achieve big goals.

The Vogue First Lady is visiting high schools throughout Washington, D.C. today to tout the case for women and their careers.  Joining Keys and Crow on the speaking line-up are General Ann Dunwoody, Mae Jemison, Denyce Graves, Kerry Washington, Debbie Allen, Maggie Daley, Lisa Leslie, Bobbi Brown, Dominique Dawes, Phylicia Rashad, Alfre Woodard, and Penny Pritzker

The all-day celebration of Women's History Month will end with a White House dinner tonight, with guest invites extended to a few very lucky (and shocked) high school students.

2009 Oscars Red Carpet: Ladies

Good God, Lisa Rinna is not right. First of all, her hair is as big as her lips and the effect is disturbing. She looks like a tall Oompa Loompa prostitute. And why is she at the Oscars, anyway? Trolling for jobs? She should have worn a Nixon mask. It would have been less terrifying. The dress is pretty, though.

Adding to the jarring contrast, star of The Secret Life of Bees, Alicia Keys was stunning and fresh-faced in a strapless pink (or light purple, it's hard to tell) dress. With an A-line shape and a slit up the leg, the gown maximized her curves. Alicia chose to wear her hair down in soft waves. I'm even kind of digging on the Amy Winehouse eye makeup. I forgot what it looked like when it's done well.

God love Sophia Loren, but that crazy dress she's wearing is making her look like a very vampy lemon meringue pie. Marion Cotillard was gorgeous and her dress looked interested. It was very grand, what with the train and all.

Earlier in the evening, Judd Apatow joked that his wife Leslie Mann was wearing a dress that was "indestructible" and indeed, it looks like it's made out of chain mail. It's sexy and can stop a bullet. Very practical choice.

Victoria Beckham Gets Skinny for Armani Store Launch

It seems impossible, but somehow Victoria Beckham peeled a few more pounds of her child's size frame and displayed a curve-less figure at last night's Armani store opening in New York city.

Giorgio Armani
invited a star-studded guest list to the launch of his 5th Avenue Store, including Leonardo DiCaprio, John Mayer, Chace Crawford, Alicia Keys and Ricky Martin - who promised a future of Armani-wearing for his two twins

But all eyes were on Posh, who out-skinnied even Molly Sims and Milla Jovovich in her sparkly pink asymmetrical tunic dress and matching satin heels.  You almost have to wonder if the woman is plotting a new fashion endeavor besides posing in Armani lingerie and designing her own dresses.  Runway modeling?

Featured in the gallery: Victoria Beckham, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ricky Martin, John Mayer, Chace Crawford, Rachel Zoe, Liam Neeson, January Jones, Josh Hartnett, Mira Sorvino, Christopher Backus, Olivia Palermo, Giorgio Armani, Zoe Saldana, Alicia Keys, Solange Knowles, Elisa Pataky, Thom Browne, Milla Jovovich, Chrisette Michele, Molly Sims, and Nina Garcia.

Bikini Clad Alicia Keys Chows Down In The Sun

Spending this last week before the holiday season soaking up some sun on the other side of the planet, Alicia Keys got her grub on in Perth, Australia.

A far cry from the (relatively) plunging temperatures in Los Angeles, Alicia's enjoying what we're assuming is a healthy snack seeing as how it's all green and stuff. So that's how she keeps her curves trim.

Meanwhile, who are these chubby old dudes looking to chat with her? A woman with a mind more filthy than myself might assume they're trying to show her something. Lucky for you guys, I only have pure thoughts.

2008 American Music Awards: X-Tina Kicks Off Performances

As promised, Christina Aguilera busted out her medley of hits to open the American Music Awards. Starting off with "Beautiful," the petite singer quickly launched into her dance-track "Keeps Getting Better" and the rest of her biggest hits. The tiny singer somehow managed to launch into a costume change for each new song. She's another one with enviable energy. Her lipstick is made of espresso beans.

Dressed simply in a long, fitted black dress, Mariah Carey looked glamorous as she performed and accepted her award for breaking Elvis Presley's record of most number one hits. The singer crooned "I Stay In Love," wind machine and all.

Annie Lennox, old school popstress showed the young ones how it's done with her short white-blonde pixie cut, looking like Pink's fairy godmother in a long black dress. Those two need to collaborate.

Birthday girl Miley Cyrus looked as if being on stage is exactly where she wanted to be on her special day and as always, Kanye West did his futuristic bit on stage.

Featured in the gallery: Kanye West, Mariah Carey, Natasha Bedingfield, Pink, Beyonce, Pussycat Dolls, Jonas Brothers, Coldplay, Taylor Swift, Sarah McLachlan, Kathleen Battle, Alica Keys, Queen Latifah, Leona Lewis, Ne-Yo, New Kids on the Block and Miley Cyrus.

Red Carpet Ladies: 2008 American Music Awards

It was clear from the dresses being worn by the female talent on the red carpet for the American Music Awards last night that metallic prints are very big right now. Leona Lewis looked like a human cocoon in her reflective, ivory-colored gown sparkling with beading. Ashley Tisdale rocked a mini-dress that appeared to be the silver companion to Miley Cyrus' gold sleeveless sheath dress.

However, Jordin Sparks and Alicia Keys opted instead for bright, rich colors for their gowns. The American Idol winner looked flirty, yet age-appropriate in a short yellow frock. And Alicia Keys struck a dramatic pose in her purple, one-shoulder gown sparkling with details all along the bodice and shoulder.

All in all, everybody--except for the usual suspects of Bai Ling (who looked like a Power Rangers villain) and Phoebe Price (whose dress was actually kind of sweet, except seriously, what is her purpose there???)--looked pretty good.

Even the Pussycat Dolls were dressed pretty demurely in short, but appropriate dresses. They were probably wearing their church clothes.

Featured in the gallery: Jordin Sparks, Brigitte Nielsen, Sarah Chalke, Natasha Bedinfield, Annie Lennox, Sarah McLachlan, Sarah Silverman, Christina Augilera, Taylor Swift, Colbie Caillat, Rachel Zoe, Pink, Ashley Tisdale, Miley Cyrus, Carrie Ann Inaba, Ali Landry, Nicole Scherzinger, Toccara Jones, Shailene Woodley, Leona Lewis, Candis Cayne, Pussycat Dolls, Rihanna, Kat Von D, Alicia Keys, Phoebe Price, Demi Lovato, Bai Ling, Omarosa Stallworth and Queen Latifah.

The 2008 American Music Awards Winners

UPDATED WITH MORE PHOTOS!

R&B singer Chris Brown dominated the American Music Awards on Sunday, winning three prizes including artist of the year.

The 19-year-old star overshadowed Alicia Keys, who led the field with five nominations, and ended up with a pair of statues.

Brown was clearly shocked to win the artist of the year honors, the ceremony's final award.

"I probably was shocked like everybody else," Brown said backstage at the Nokia Theater. "I know everybody was like, 'Huh?' I thought Coldplay should have genuinely won that award, but I'll take it!"

He was also named favorite male artist in both the soul/R&B and pop/rock categories. His girlfriend, Rihanna, won those categories for the women.

Keys' album As I Am was named favorite album in the soul/R&B and pop/rock categories.

Other winners included voice-of-his-generation Kanye West, who won the first two American Music Awards of his career. He said he would give one of them away to fellow nominee, Lil Wayne.

"If it was last year, this would have been my award," he said of the favorite male rap/hip-hop category. "This year, it's Wayne's award. We'll see what happens next year." West also won favorite rap/hip-hop album with Graduation.

Taylor Swift won her first award, as favorite female country singer, for her album Fearless.

"It's an honor that you even care about the songs I wrote in my bedroom," said the 18-year-old star.

Brad Paisley, another first-time winner, won the favorite male country artist category. "I have always, always wanted to win an American Music Award," he said, pausing to survey the bottom of his statuette. "Made in China?"

For the second straight year, winners were determined by online voting. So, the evening can be cited as exhibit R in the case for why America should be turned into a benign monarchy.

All of our American Music Awards Coverage is located here.

Featured in the gallery: Mariah Carey, Enrique Iglesias, Brad Paisley, Taylor Swift,  Nick Cannon, Annie Lennox, Daughtry, Chris Brown, Alicia Keys, Jonas Brothers, Kanye West and Justin Timberlake.

Anderson Cooper Hosts CNN Star-Studded Heroes Event

While the celebrities shined on the red carpet and performed on stage, it was the everyday heroes that made the 2008 CNN Hero of the Year event touching.

"To the country and the world, I ask you to please join us," McCartney said. "Together we can continue to rebuild families' homes and lives. ... If you join us, we'll be unstoppable."
