Michael J. Fox has a special place in my heart. As I'm sure you know he suffers from Parkinsons, and my father does as well. So with Fox's role as a tireless fundraiser and champion for finding a cure for Parkinson's, Michael is listed in the category of heroes and pioneers. Well done.

It's been quite a week for New York, which kicked off a pair of a glitzy events with Monday night's Costume Institute Gala. And the big names continued to roll in the following evening as Time magazine hosted its annual 100 Most Influential People party. The eclectic collection of names on the list was reflected in the roll call of guests, who included Michael J Fox, Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett, business mogul Richard Branson and presidential candidate Senator John Edwards.

Newcomer America Ferrara joined invitees after making it onto the list for the first time following her swift ascent to fame on hit TV series Ugly Betty. She shared the red carpet by another rising star, Grammy-winning singer-songwriter John Mayer, who's currently stepping out with Jessica Simpson.

Also putting in an appearance was Lauren Bush - despite the fact her uncle, President George W Bush, was left off the list for the first time in four years.

I'm thinking it wasn't just a typo.

''There are huge developments, huge developments with Betty and Henry,'' teased Christopher Gorham, who plays Henry. ''I can't tell you any more than that but it's exciting.''

As for other coming plot developments, Ashley Jensen, who plays seamstress Christina, said to expect a ''shocking'' revelation about her character. And, Vanessa Williams revealed, her scheming Wilhelmina will come within a whisker of taking over the magazine. ''She's still on her unrelenting pursuit of the takeover and she's trying a lot of different avenues and one avenue is becoming very, very successful,'' she noted.

All I have to say is that as long as Judith Light and Mark Indelicato get some more screen time, I'll be a happy camper.

Being booted off "American Idol" doesn't seem to have been too detrimental to Sanjaya's career, as he recently found himself invited to break bread with the prez at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, along with a laundry list of other celebs. From People:

Malakar, 17, was a guest of PEOPLE, joining fellow celebs Valerie Bertinelli, High School Musical star Zac Efron, Project Runway's Tim Gunn, comedian Eddie Izzard and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Other stars at the event included Sheryl Crow and Laurie David (who had a run-in with Karl Rove), Kerry Washington, and Desperate Housewives stars Hatcher, James Denton and creator Marc Cherry.

I wonder if President Bush gave Sanjaya tips on how to snatch the "American Idol" title, without Sanj having to win the actual vote. Hey, stranger things have happened...

Everybody's favorite pretend ugly girl, America Ferrera says that she doesn't have what it takes to be like her skinny Hollywood peers:

"Even if I wanted to be anorexic, I just don't have what it takes," Ferrera tells W magazine. "After four hours of being anorexic, I'd be like, 'It's been four whole hours! Feed me!"

I like to imagine America saying that in her best Cookie Monster voice while surrounded by Oreos and Twinkies and Moon Pies, shoving as much in her mouth as she can fit.

Leave it to Lindsay Lohan to take the spotlight at the premiere of Showtime's "The Tudors" which stars Jonathan Rhys Meyers. The little minx seemed to have had a change of heart in regards to Robbie Williams. Back in November of last year, Lohan spurned his advances. Last night was another night altogether.

The actress, 20, sent her "people" over to Rob at The Tudors premiere after-party in Les Deux in LA in the early hours of this morning to ask could she join him at his table. And, judging by this cosy photo, Robbie was more than happy to oblige.

Or perhaps she's just keen to add another British notch to her bedpost. The Mean Girls star has been spotted out with James Blunt and Jude Law in the past two weeks.

She was also spotted at the Chateau Marmont Hotel in LA with Paris Hilton's on/ off boyfriend Stavros Niarchos during the weekend.

However, it looks like Robbie has won out, because a reveller at the bash last night told us: "Rob and Lindsay looked very cosy together in the corner. He had his arm around her for most of the night, and at one stage he was whispering in her ear and she was giggling like a schoolgirl with a crush. They actually made a very cute pair."

After the premiere party, Robbie quickly changed out of his dapper grey suit and into an all black getup before hitting celeb haunt Hyde - the place he first met Lohan.

How nostalgic. Although he did go to the club sans Lohan.

Martin Scorsese won the top honor Saturday from the Directors Guild of America for his mob saga "The Departed." This cements his standing as the favorite to take the Oscar home for Best Director. It would be his first.

Scorsese was chosen as filmmaker of the year by his peers, his first win at the guild awards after six previous nominations. The guild winner usually goes on to win the best-director Oscar.

The self-deprecating Scorsese said he was pleased at the apparent success of the film but that he became convinced it was doing well only when the studio called with box-office revenues from the first couple of weekends.

"If you look at the graph at the spikes at where the picture is doing really great figures, it's like looking at a veritable map of the American underworld," such as Boca Raton, Fla., Scorsese said. "Vegas, forget about it, it was amazing."

In keeping with my love affair with America Ferrera, the adorable star of "Ugly Betty," I'm going to be raving about her throughout the rest of this post. I'm just giving you fair warning.

An article in the esteemed publication, the National Enquirer, revealed that Ferrera's childhood was a volatile one. America said that she would shut out the sounds of her parents fighting by "acting out plays in my head" as a means of escape. After her parents divorced, America and her five siblings were the sole charge of their single mother. At the tender age of eight, America ventured into the world of acting in school plays and community theater.

But it wasn't just her family life that was a struggle. America's self-image was a sore spot for the young actress growing up.

"I'd look in the mirror and cry, thinking I was too fat," she admitted. "But today I feel beautiful and far from the ugly duckling I appear to be on screen."

Well, girl, don't feel too bad. We all know that under those hideous sweater-vests and monster braces, there is some very enormous cleavage. And really, isnt' that what really counts?

The recent Golden Globe winner admits that she was a real-life Ugly Betty when she first tried to get work in Hollywood. She initially felt confident about herself when she arrived in Hollywood, but once she started going to auditions, she immediately realized all the other actresses were skinny and perfect.

Ferrera told Hello magazine: "I didn't know how fat and ugly I was until I started going to auditions. I don't feel that way inside.

"To me, it seems like the roles that mean something, the roles that really delve in and make people feel connected to it and make me feel connected to it, are roles that are flawed and the roles that nobody else wants to play."

"I never wanted top be a model. I never wanted to do ads for skincare.

"If I'm in the spotlight for something like 'Top Sexiest Girls Between 21 and 22', that's a little uncomfortable because it's not based on who I really am."
