'Twilight' Soundtrack Gets 'American Music Awards' Nom; Adam Lambert To Perform

Not only is the Twilight movie still being enthusiastically pored over by obsessed fans and now the film is getting critical recognition. Well, at least the music is. The tween vampire flick's soundtrack is one of a list of nominees for the 37th annual American Music Awards.

And who better to take to the stage for such an occasion than the raven-haired American Idol runner-up, Adam Lambert? This will be the first time the singer will be performing since his appearance on the reality TV competition show yet before his album is prepped to drop.

Michael Jackson has received five post-martum nominations and Eminem has snagged four. As for the most nominated performer, Taylor Swift has six to her credit meaning that Kanye West probably has a busy night ahead of him.

Lady Gaga: Three Martini Thursday

When we first noticed Lady Gaga and her specific style, we thought for a moment that perhaps she was the inspiration for Christina Aguilera's new look. It seemed that maybe this young, new upstart on the pop scene was threatening to dethrone X-tina.

Then Aguilera slammed Gaga by claiming that she'd never even heard of the "Just Dance" singer and secured her pop diva status by curling her hair and delivering a mind-blowing medley of her greatest hits at the open of the American Music Awards.

Because it looks like X-tina won out this time, it's only fair to bestow a drink or three to Lady Gaga. She's gonna need it for round two because Christina fights the same way she likes her martinis--extra dirrty.

Rihanna Checks Into 'Rehab' On Stage At 2008 VMAs

After watching the showstopping live performances delivered by pop superstars Christina Aguilera and a bootyshaking Beyoncé Knowles who whipped her ponytail around with the precision of a surgeon, watching a barely-moving Rihanna sing her new single "Rehab" was pretty disappointing.

Seeming to rely on her heavily-styled hair, dominatrix outfit, random accessories (a bedazzled eye-patch, really?) and pyrotechnics, Rihanna hardly appeared to be the young one in the bunch as she could barely see fit to step around sexily and flipped her hair once or twice for emphasis.

Maybe her interpretation of a woman strung-out on love was just a little too realistic.

2008 American Music Awards: X-Tina Kicks Off Performances

As promised, Christina Aguilera busted out her medley of hits to open the American Music Awards. Starting off with "Beautiful," the petite singer quickly launched into her dance-track "Keeps Getting Better" and the rest of her biggest hits. The tiny singer somehow managed to launch into a costume change for each new song. She's another one with enviable energy. Her lipstick is made of espresso beans.

Dressed simply in a long, fitted black dress, Mariah Carey looked glamorous as she performed and accepted her award for breaking Elvis Presley's record of most number one hits. The singer crooned "I Stay In Love," wind machine and all.

Annie Lennox, old school popstress showed the young ones how it's done with her short white-blonde pixie cut, looking like Pink's fairy godmother in a long black dress. Those two need to collaborate.

Birthday girl Miley Cyrus looked as if being on stage is exactly where she wanted to be on her special day and as always, Kanye West did his futuristic bit on stage.

Beyoncé Electrifies On The AMAs Stage

Slinking out onto the stage at the AMAs in her now signature unitard, Beyoncé Knowles didn't seem to mind at all that she wasn't being backed by her buddy Justin Timberlake during her performance of "Single Ladies."

Between the flashing lights, the high heels, hair flips, booty-shaking, it's amazing that no one in the audience experienced seizures. Or maybe they did and were carted out before things got too awkward.

OK, how cute was Queen Latifah when she held up her hand when B asked to hear from the single ladies in the audience? And how is this woman able to run around on stage like she does AND sing live? Being her must require endless pots of coffee.

Red Carpet Men: 2008 American Music Awards

Usually, it's the guys who keep it simple with a suit and a smile, but then again, these are musicians we're talking about. Kanye West was colorful in a brightly-colored jacket in red, varying shades of blue and yellow, jeans sneakers and what I believe is a raccoon tail hanging out of the his back pocket. Um, he better not let PETA see that.

David Cook looked pretty low-key in his black suit, red tie and slacks. However, he has picked up the affectations of a pocket chain and eyeliner. Hmm, whatever makes you feel special, guy. Corbin Blue was kind of awkward in his dress jacket, jeans and t-shirt, but that might just be his thing.

Chris Brown showed up in a unique twist of the traditional tuxedo in a sweater and black leather jacket. Oh yeah, he and his lady love the leather.

Featured in the gallery:  Kanye West, David Archuleta, Jamie Foxx, Cristian Siriano, Rascal Flatts, Jesse McCartney, Billy Ray Cyrus, Hill Harper, Ne-Yo, Lance Bass, Steven Tyler, Terrance Howard, Richie Sambora, Chris Daughtry, David Cook, David Archuleta, Jonas Brothers, David Blue, Corbin Bleu, T-Pain, Akon, Mitchell Musso, Lewis Hamilton and Chris Brown.

Red Carpet Ladies: 2008 American Music Awards

It was clear from the dresses being worn by the female talent on the red carpet for the American Music Awards last night that metallic prints are very big right now. Leona Lewis looked like a human cocoon in her reflective, ivory-colored gown sparkling with beading. Ashley Tisdale rocked a mini-dress that appeared to be the silver companion to Miley Cyrus' gold sleeveless sheath dress.

However, Jordin Sparks and Alicia Keys opted instead for bright, rich colors for their gowns. The American Idol winner looked flirty, yet age-appropriate in a short yellow frock. And Alicia Keys struck a dramatic pose in her purple, one-shoulder gown sparkling with details all along the bodice and shoulder.

All in all, everybody--except for the usual suspects of Bai Ling (who looked like a Power Rangers villain) and Phoebe Price (whose dress was actually kind of sweet, except seriously, what is her purpose there???)--looked pretty good.

Even the Pussycat Dolls were dressed pretty demurely in short, but appropriate dresses. They were probably wearing their church clothes.

Featured in the gallery: Jordin Sparks, Brigitte Nielsen, Sarah Chalke, Natasha Bedinfield, Annie Lennox, Sarah McLachlan, Sarah Silverman, Christina Augilera, Taylor Swift, Colbie Caillat, Rachel Zoe, Pink, Ashley Tisdale, Miley Cyrus, Carrie Ann Inaba, Ali Landry, Nicole Scherzinger, Toccara Jones, Shailene Woodley, Leona Lewis, Candis Cayne, Pussycat Dolls, Rihanna, Kat Von D, Alicia Keys, Phoebe Price, Demi Lovato, Bai Ling, Omarosa Stallworth and Queen Latifah.

The 2008 American Music Awards Winners

UPDATED WITH MORE PHOTOS!

R&B singer Chris Brown dominated the American Music Awards on Sunday, winning three prizes including artist of the year.

The 19-year-old star overshadowed Alicia Keys, who led the field with five nominations, and ended up with a pair of statues.

Brown was clearly shocked to win the artist of the year honors, the ceremony's final award.

"I probably was shocked like everybody else," Brown said backstage at the Nokia Theater. "I know everybody was like, 'Huh?' I thought Coldplay should have genuinely won that award, but I'll take it!"

He was also named favorite male artist in both the soul/R&B and pop/rock categories. His girlfriend, Rihanna, won those categories for the women.

Keys' album As I Am was named favorite album in the soul/R&B and pop/rock categories.

Other winners included voice-of-his-generation Kanye West, who won the first two American Music Awards of his career. He said he would give one of them away to fellow nominee, Lil Wayne.

"If it was last year, this would have been my award," he said of the favorite male rap/hip-hop category. "This year, it's Wayne's award. We'll see what happens next year." West also won favorite rap/hip-hop album with Graduation.

Taylor Swift won her first award, as favorite female country singer, for her album Fearless.

"It's an honor that you even care about the songs I wrote in my bedroom," said the 18-year-old star.

Brad Paisley, another first-time winner, won the favorite male country artist category. "I have always, always wanted to win an American Music Award," he said, pausing to survey the bottom of his statuette. "Made in China?"

For the second straight year, winners were determined by online voting. So, the evening can be cited as exhibit R in the case for why America should be turned into a benign monarchy.

Featured in the gallery: Mariah Carey, Enrique Iglesias, Brad Paisley, Taylor Swift,  Nick Cannon, Annie Lennox, Daughtry, Chris Brown, Alicia Keys, Jonas Brothers, Kanye West and Justin Timberlake.

Pink Is Pretty: 2008 American Music Awards

Loving the cut of her strapless, curve-hugging dress, her funky accessories and soft curls, the only aspect of Pink's ensemble that we're not finding totally to die for is the look of the fabric itself. It just looks...itchy.

That particular caveat aside, whenever the spunky singer steps out looking all feminine and stuff, it warms the cockles of our heart to see our beloved little tomboy looking all grown and sexy.

Taylor Swift Keeps It Silver & Short At The 2008 AMAs

Well, Taylor Swift has yet to step out in an ugly outfit on the red carpet and Sunday night at the American Music Awards was no exception. Perhaps she was inspired by the stunning silver mini-dress worn by Britney Spears at this year's MTV Video Music Awards.

If so, she made the right decision since she not only looks great, but also managed to win some awards while at the event.
