Glamour Magazine Women Of The Year Awards For 2009

Share

Many familiar faces took to the stage at this year's Glamour magazine's Women of the Year awards. Celebrity presenters at Carnegie Hall in New York City included movie star couple, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas, former President Bill Clinton, Katie Couric and three Beatle wives.

It was model Iman who presented Rihanna with her prize for the evening and told the audience, "Now I am even more impressed with her dignity and courage."

Fashion designer and daughter of Beatle Paul McCartney, Stella McCartney, received her award when it was presented to her by John Lennon's widow, Yoko Ono; George Harrison's widow; Olivia Harrison and Ringo Starr's wife, Barbara Starkey.

Emmy award-winning talk show host, Tyra Banks, presented tennis player, Serena Williams, with her award and encouraged the women in the crowd, "You can do whatever you want to do. The most important belief is self-belief."

Of course, the best line was uttered by comedian Amy Poehler, who addressed the female contingent of the audience by advising, "Girls, if boys say something that's not funny, you don't have to laugh."

Emmy Nominees Share Their Reactions

Share

As the 2009 Emmy nominations were announced this morning, television celebrities everywhere were either super happy or super upset. Luckily, we've got some reactions from the Emmy nominees who were super happy brought to you my E! Online. Check them out and let us know what you think!

Sally Field, whose is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her work on the ABC show Brothers & Sisters said "As Brothers & Sisters enters its fourth season, it still is and always will be a great honor to be nominated. The only hard part is finding a dress...and a date." She's adorable. I hope she wins and makes a speech similar to one she made the second time she won a best actress Oscar.

How I Met Your Mother's Neil Patrick Harris is hosting the ceremony, and he is nominated as well for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. He probably had my favorite reaction. "I love being in the mix again this year, but am absolutely over the moon about HIMYM's best comedy series nomination. The only multicamera show in the mix! This kind of recognition is huge for us. Just huge. It should be quite the night. Being asked to host the show--terrific. Getting a third nomination--fantastic. Having the ability to scribble my name in the envelope backstage when no one is looking--priceless." Do it Neil!

Julia Louis-Dreyfus, nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for The New Adventures of Old Christine, is quoted as saying, "I am truly delighted to be nominated, and I'm really looking forward to kicking Tina Fey's ass." Good luck. We'll just have wait until the Emmys to see if Tina Fey's lucky streak is broken.

Read more reactions after the jump!

Suze Orman & Kathy Griffin Triumphant At Gracie Awards

Share

When I first saw this photo, my heart stopped at the sight of my two favorite sassy ladies back-to-back. Fashion guru Suze Orman and comedian Kathy Griffin were both big winner's at the 34th Annual AWRT Gracie Awards and showed off their trophies with a pose on the red carpet.

The awards were held last night at the Broadway Ballroom at the New York Marriott Marquis in Manhattan and were presented by American Women in Radio & Television.

It was a veritable who's who of women in broadcasting, with journalism icon Barbara Walters rubbing shoulders with Katie Couric, Rachel Maddow and Law & Order: SVU star Mariska Hargitay. The most impressive sign that this was an esteemed event celebrating landmark journalism? I wasn't anywhere in sight.

Wanda Sykes Rocks 2009 White House Correspondents Dinner

The comedian took to the pulpit in front of the crowd of famous faces. Sykes teased President Barack Obama about the numerous shirtless pictures of him in the media, his basketball games and managed to touch upon issues of race and politics with an edge that only Wanda can deliver.

Girlfriend did not pull any punches and I'm not doing them justice here in this blog post. You'll have to watch them for yourselves.

It was an impressive array of celebrities in the audience, but none whose smiles were bigger than the President and First Lady Michelle Obama.

Amy Poehler Speaks To The Gays

Share

On Thursday, Amy Poehler returns to television in her primetime series Parks and Recreation. They 37-year-old former Saturday Night Live cast member recently chatted with The Advocate about her love of all things gay.

On a recent night out with some buddies from SNL including Rachel Dratch and Kristen Wiig to see Liza Minnelli perform in New York, Amy insisted that Liza bless her pregnant friend's baby to be gay friendly. To this, Liza responded by singing to the unborn child, "What good is sitting alone in your womb? Come hear the music play!" Can we just have a moment of silence to recognize how amazing Liza is and always will be?

Amy also joked about being confused with another famous, petite blond. When she was asked whether or not she'd run into any drag performers impersonating her, she sadly replied no.

However, she did say, "I just hope people keep mistaking me for Lady GaGa. Christina Aguilera may steal a lot of Lady GaGa's style, but Lady GaGa steals a lot of my jokes, and a lot of people don't know that."

The Ladies: 2009 Kids' Choice Awards

Share

It's a challenge to dress yourself, knowing full well that you're going to be photographed against the background of a bright orange carpet, but these stars did their best. Demi Lovato was almost unrecognizable with the hearty tan she was sporting, in her metallic bronze dress and black heels. I'm kind of apathetic about the look, except her hair really does look great.

Paula Abdul had a lot going on in her look. It's nice to see that she managed to wipe off the mustache, but she seems to have found her way into Criss Angel's closet, what with all the sheer black and chains. For her next trick, she will fall asleep with her eyes open! Ta-da!

Young Miranda Cosgrove hit the perfect pitch of playful and dressy with her black and white dress and kitten heels. A little on the skinny side, but we'll fatten her up yet.

Emma Roberts
confused me a little with her red shift dress, which was quite all right, except that she chose to pair it with what looks like half a pair of boots.

Oh yes, and somewhere in there, Lisa Rinna was out and about, scaring the children.

Check out these individual galleries of Megan Fox, America Ferrera, Vanessa Hudgens & Zac Efron, Cameron Diaz, Ashley Tisdale, Miley Cyrus, Jonas Brothers, Taylor Lautner and Pete Wentz. All of our 2009 Kids Choice Awards coverage here!

Amy Poehler Talks 'Parks And Recreation' With GQ

Share

With a new TV show set to premiere on NBC, former Saturday Night Live cast member Amy Poehler chatted with GQ to promote her latest project Parks and Recreation.

Even though the show is being run by the producers of The Office, Amy explains that it's not really a spin-off per se. "Our world seems a lot bigger to me than theirs, actually. But that could just be because I'm shorter than [Steve] Carell," the pocket-sized comedian joked.

The men's magazine also put Poehler on the spot for calling the Secretary of State a "flurge." In response, Amy laughed and said, "I love how many people were like that... is... INSULTING. We just made that word up!" Oh Amy, you're so doodalicious.
