Reese Witherspoon Celebrates Birthday With Monsters And Aliens

Share

The lovely and talented Reese Witherspoon celebrated her 33rd birthday today at the  premiere (hopefully the last one) for her new movie Monsters vs. Aliens. The Legally Blonde actress joined up with co-star Seth Rogen, as the pair greeted fans and posed for pictures at the Gibson Amphitheatre on the Universal City grounds.

Witherspoon voices the character of Susan, a girl-next-door, who is struck on her wedding day by an energy-packed meteor that causes her to grow to 49-feet-11.

"It definitely is the most action-packed movie I've ever been in," Witherspoon said in a Canadian exclusive telephone interview. "(Being animated) makes it a lot easier to kick butt. And the best thing is, I didn't have to diet to fit into that cat suit."

Reese only got to work with one of her movie co-stars, Paul Rudd, who voices Susan's colossally egotistical weatherman fiance, Derek Dietl.

"We got to be in the same room together and collaborate for a day, and that was so awesome because he's so funny," Witherspoon says. "He gets to play a really big jerk in this movie and was riffing on it. I'm actually doing my next movie with him (an as-yet-untitled comedy by James L. Brooks)."

Reese Witherspoon and Paul Rudd seem like the perfect team. Looking forward to the movie.

Vanity Fair: Bare-Assed Comedy

Remember the issue of Vanity Fair from over three years ago which featured a nude Scarlett Johansson and Keira Knightley, whose earlobe was being nibbled on by a bare-chested Tom Ford? If not, this set-up with Paul Rudd, Jason Segel, Jonah Hill and Seth Rogen should help job your memory.

Reminiscent of the feature and photoshoot they dedicated to female comedians last year, this issue features various funny guys and gals invoking the images of classic movie icons, from Russell Brand as Charlie Chaplin to real-life comedian couple Will Arnett and Amy Poehler posing as Bonnie & Clyde.

Amy Poehler: 2009 SAG Awards Red Carpet

Share

When you're a peaches and cream blond, you can't go wrong with the right shade of crisp white.

Amy Poehler chose a Grecian-esque Roberto Cavalli dress from his pre-fall 2009 collection for last night's SAG awards.

The Saturday Night Live alum looked sunny and simple with the only clear-cut embellishment being a silver broach on the breast and diamond stud earrings.

The empire waist cut is also notoriously forgiving for those battling with post-baby stomach flab. Not to say you are, Ames...

25th Sundance Film Festival Is Off And Running

Share

With more and more celebrities streaming into Park City, Utah for the 25th Sundance Film Festival, the screenings and deals are beginning to rack up.

Hollywood's appetite for independent films is shrinking as studios reduce spending and shift their focus to making sequels and larger-budget films that are better bets for profitability. More than 100 films hope to attract distributors, who must gamble on unpredictable audience trends. The result is lower expectations for filmmakers who traditionally have found a market at Sundance.

The market for independent films has already been thrown off balance. Last year's big Sundance acquisitions (Hamlet 2, American Teen) failed to make money in theaters, the economy is in the dumper despite a modestly up year for studio movies, and a large number of boutique distributors - the companies that traditionally exist to buy Sundance fare - went out of business in 2008.

Consequently, it's absurdly easy to get dinner reservations in Park City and find a seat on the festival shuttle buses. Plus the festival is still good for fantastic star gazing.

Details On Amy Poehler's New TV Show

Share

Saturday Night Live alum Amy Poehler is talking about her upcoming series, which as of now, is being called The Untitled Amy Poeher Show. According to the comedian, the plot centers around characters involved in small-town government.

Creator of the series, Greg Daniels describes the idea behind the show, "I'm interested in doing character comedy. We're keeping the background really plain so the humor of the actors is set off nicely."

As for Amy, her description of her character's ambitious personality is akin to the character description of Tracy Flick from Election, "I think in most comedies the lead character suffers from not being self-aware. Leslie is an optimist, and she's really ambitious, she's hoping the place she is now is not that place she is going to stay."

Also starring in the series is former guest star on The Office Rashida Jones and Scrubs guest star Aziz Ansari.

SNL Bids Amy Poehler Goodbye, Ridicules Blind Important People

Share

Saturday evening's episode of SNL was a big one for two reasons. Firstly, the wonderful and beloved Amy Poehler announced that it was officially her last show. She's off to take care of baby Archie and then launch her own show for NBC. Secondly, Fred Armisen's impression of blind New York governor David Paterson caused some controversy. Check out the clip of Armisen wrecking her goodbye. It's funny, but don't let the NY governor's office know you think that.

Poehler kept her composure as she made her announcement. "This is my last show," she said on "Weekend Update." "Being able to do over 140 shows with my friends and my family has been a dream come true. "I love you," she said to the audience, "and I will miss all of you very much."

Meanwhile, Armisen mocked Paterson's vision impairment and admitted cocaine use. And he wasn't thrilled about it as evidenced by a statement he made to the NY Daily News.

"I can take a joke," he said and added, "only 37% of disabled people are working and I'm afraid that that kind of third-grade humor certainly adds to his atmosphere."

Ugh. Great. Now we all suck for laughing. Everything about this is bittersweet.

News Bites: Jennifer Hudson's Sister Pleads For The Return Of Her Child

Share

Jennifer Hudson's sister Julia held a press conference yesterday at the Pleasant Gift Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago, pleading for the return of her seven-year-old son Julian. Julian has been missing since the shooting deaths of Hudson's mother Darnell Donerson and brother Jason Hudson on Friday. "I don't care who you are, just let the baby go," Hudson said.

Funnylady Amy Poehler has given birth. And they named the kid Archie! HAH! This is Amy's first kid with partner Will Arnett. "Mother, baby and husband are all healthy and resting comfortably," NBC said in a statement. Seth Myers announced she had gone into labor at the beginning of "Weekend Update" last night on SNL. Archie!

Amy Winehouse blew off an appointment for questioning by the London po-po relating to an incident last month. Winehouse reportedly whacked some bitch in the face backstage at the End of Summer Ball when she was asked to pose for a photograph. Anyway, Ames didn't show and the cops say they'll reschedule with her. Oh yes, go through her assistant - the crack pipe.

Sarah Palin Drops By SNL

Share

Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin took a trip to New York to Saturday Night Live to show that the dead-on Tina Fey impersonations don't bother her one bit! She's a good sport, e'erbody!

Palin did a serviceable job of portraying herself in the cold open, but it was a pregnant Amy Poehler who was the real star of the Update: Palin Rap sketch.

Keep your eyes peeled for a chair-dancing Sarah Palin. It's like when my mom dances, only I'm pretty sure Sarah wasn't full of at least two and a half glasses of wine, so I was slightly less embarrassed for her.

Tina Fey Mock's Sarah Palin's Katie Curic Interview on SNL

Share

Tina Fey reprised her role as Sarah Palin on Saturday Night Live, again appearing as the Republican vice presidential candidate in an opening sketch.

Amy Poehler played CBS's Katie Couric, parodying the interview with Palin earlier this week. Poehler, though, mostly played straight man to Fey, who ratcheted up her performance of Sen. John McCain's running mate by satirizing her foreign affairs experience.

When Poehler's Couric pushed Fey's Palin to specifically discuss how she would help facilitate democracy abroad, Fey gave in: "Katie, I'd like to use one of my lifelines. ... I want to phone a friend."

When a confused Poehler informed her that that wasn't how the interview worked, Fey's Palin responded -- alluding to one of the governor's most quoted lines from the interview -- "Well, in that case, I'm just gonna have to get back to ya."

-Holly Madison denies rumors that she has left her Playboy mogul boyfriend Hugh Hefner. On her MySpace blog, the Bunny writes, "Hef and I are not breaking up." It seems she's not done riding this geriatric gravy train just yet.

-Shia LaBeouf admitted to Maxim magazine that he's got a thing for journalist Diane Sawyer. According to the young Transformers star, "She just does it for me."
