Today is the first anniversary of the passing of larger-than-life personality, Anna Nicole Smith. Unsurprisingly, Larry Birkhead is taking this opportunity to do some interviews and chatted with People magazine about how he hopes to keep Anna's spirit alive for little Dannielynn. Birkhead revealed, "We have a granite piece of tile with Anna's picture on it, and she crawls to it and she kisses it and says, 'Momma!' and she points to her momma."

A piece of tile? He couldn't find anything more warm and inviting on which to put Anna's likeness? Oh whatever, I should just leave well enough alone and enjoy these pictures of Anna

And look who's in the hizzy - Anna Nicole's Moms! She's always around, sniffing for the money and looking like Ursula the Seawitch. Daniel Smith died at Doctors Hospital in the Bahamas, three days after his half-sister Dannielyn was born to his mom Anna Nicole Smith. The inquest into his death began on Monday after many delays and his Mom's husband and lawyer Howard K. Stern was called to testify. The inquest was originally supposed to have begun in October of 2006, but the case was so mixed up that it has resulted in a decision by the Bahamian Supreme Court Chief Justice disbanding the cornoner's court.

The inquest was delayed again when Stern was didn't love the jury selection process because he was not allowed to ask questions of potential jury members.

Other witnessess testifying yesterday included Stern, a criminal records officer who was in charge of Daniel's autopsy photos, a Bahamiam official who testified to Daniel's demeanor at the airport, and the anesthesiologist who tried to revive Daniel. It's nice to see that they can do the opposite of their chosen profession. Howard K. Stern is SO screwed. They found every drug but Viagra in Daniel's body, and you know he was getting em' from somewhere. Hey, he was able to keep Anna drugged and pliable to keep the money coming all those years - why not the kid? Dannielyn's actually lucky that hairdo addict Larry Birkhead ended up with her, otherwise Stern would be feeding her Aqua Dots to keep her in line.

I love that there is not a single individual somehow involved with the media circus that is and was Anna Nicole Smith's life who looks boring and normal. Look at this woman--this Rita Cosby of whom we speak. She was clearly born to write unauthorized biographies. Authorized biographers don't wear crazy jackets like that. Well, it's finally catching up with her, now that she's been served with legal papers as she walked in to a book signing of hers in Manhattan last night. The suit is in regards to Howard K. Stern's alleging that she has committed libel in her book about Anna, "Blonde Ambition: The Untold Story Behind Anna Nicole Smith's Death." Us Weekly got this quote from Rita, shortly after she'd been handed the papers.

"What crossed my mind...they knew I was walking into a big book party. It just shows you that with these guys it's all just smoke and mirrors. It's all PR and spin. And that's what I write about in my book. So I'm not surprised that they used this opportunity. This is par for the course for these characters."

The drama continues. Howard K. Stern is the named executor of Anna's will, and Larry Birkhead has filed as the sole custodian of lil' Dannielynn. It looks like Anna's fortune is valued as around 700K. Uh, wait - what about the gajillion she won from her old dead decrepit husband? Is that still tied up? I thought the guy that was fighting her on that kicked? Jesus, everybody in this case dies.

Birkhead asks the court to name him as guardian "in order to represent his daughter's interest in the probate proceedings for the Estate of Vickie Lynn Marshall, aka Anna Nicole Smith." Birkhead's hearing is set for June 19. Meanwhile, according to Smith's will, Howard Stern has been named special administrator as well as executor of her estate. Smith's personal attorney Ron Rale was named second executor.

The will, which Smith signed and dated on July 30th, 2001, before Dannielynn's birth and son Daniel's death, lists her sole child as Daniel Wayne Smith. The will directs that all of Smith's property, after the payment of taxes, be distributed to Howard Stern, who will hold it in a trust for her child, Daniel. Once the child reaches 25, the will provides they will be given one third all the income and one half the principal of the trust. At age 35, her child will be given all the remaining principal of the trust. It states that Smith's spouse is deceased and has no registered domestic partner. Smith's estate's current estimated value is listed as $710,000.

Dannielynn has arrived!

Larry Birkhead is back on U.S. soil with his daughter, Dannielynn.

Birkhead just landed in Louisville, Kentucky via private jet. We're told Birkhead will spend time with his family, but will eventually return to Los Angeles.

The custody fight is not over. Birkhead must return with his daughter to a Bahamian court next month for a formal custody hearing. Virgie Arthur is the only obstacle standing in Birkhead's way.

The man with the complicated hair is finally able to take his daughter home. Larry Birkhead was given permission by a judge in the Bahamas to take Dannielynn anywhere he would like, until a June 8 custody hearing in Nassau. At the hearing, it will be decided if Virgie Arthur, Anna's mother, will be the child's guardian in the case that something should happen to Larry, and whether or not she retains a claim on visitation rights. Larry's simply waiting for changes to the birth certificate to be made, in which Howard K. Stern will be replaced by Birkhead as the father on the document. In addition, Dannielynn will be taking on Larry's last name.

Says the source, "Larry is making his travel plans this second, and wants to go to both Louisville, Ky., where his family lives, and to California, where his home is."

Last night I attended an Anna Nicole Smith Tribute Event at Here Lounge in West Hollywood. I'm still trying to figure out what the tribute was. I guess D-List celebs paying homage to the passing of one of their own is a completely different process than how the A-Listers mourn the loss of a fellow star.

There was, of course, the requisite photo montage of Anna plastered across all the plasma screen TV's and a couple of girls dressed up like Anna. But that's where the "tribute" ended. It was mainly about getting face time on the red carpet and the open bar. I think the longer you stayed in front of the photographers, the bigger your tribute. And that award went to the infamous Bobby Trendy, the night's host. Or maybe it was the guy who went to high school with Anna and had people sign his yearbook. I'm actually not even making that up.

Lady, give it up! Virgie Arthur is supposedly heading to the Bahamas to ask a judge to award her guardianship of the tiny human dollar sign .

Virgie Arthur just won't go away. She'll be in the Bahamas tomorrow, asking a judge to award her guardianship of Dannielynn -- this, according to Court TV Correspondent Jean Casarez. Jean tells TMZ that Virgie wants guardianship pending a ruling on who's the daddy.

But there are several obstacles standing in her way. In addition to the fact that Anna detested Virgie, Jean has learned that the Supreme Court of the Bahamas has directed Social Services on the island to do a background check on her. Social Services will also do background checks on Howard K. Stern and Larry Birkhead. The findings will be revealed in court tomorrow.

And speaking of Social Services, Jean learned that there is no current investigation as to whether Dannielynn is currently in safe care with Howard K. Stern. That's because no formal complaint has ever been lodged.
