Indie movie Slum Dog Millionaire was the big winner at the Critics' Choice Awards last night in Los Angeles, taking home 5 awards--Best Picture, Best Young Actor (Dev Patel), Writer (Simon Beaufoy), Composer (A.R. Rahman) and Director (Danny Boyle).

Sean Penn won for Best Actor as his portrayal of Harvey Milk for the movie Milk.

Anne Hathaway, successfully shedding her Princess Diary/ Ella Enchanted growing pains, tied with Meryl Streep for Best Actress. Streep for Doubt and Hathaway for Rachel Getting Married.

The Dark Knight won Best Action Film, with the late Heath Ledger winning Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of the Joker.

Kate Winslet won Best Supporting Actress for The Reader and the Ben Stiller-directed Tropic Thunder took home the award for Best Comedy.

Those eagle eyes at NY Magazine caught a Golden Globes website reveal on their website. According to the awards' official website, Anne Hathaway will win a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Drama on Sunday night!

However, a short while later the star next to her name had disappeared. What a bummer it would be for her if she doesn't end up winning after all. Still, it is an honor just to be nominated.

There were a number of old-school Hollywood heavy hitters at the Palm Springs Film Festival. Donald Sutherland, Dustin Hoffman and Clint Eastwood represented for the silver-haired crowd. Clint, the grizzled old bastard, showed up to accept his Career Achievement Award. Good for him. I saw him once on a red carpet and I can't imagine a more intimidating individual to meet in person.

Leonardo DiCaprio and his permanent baby face accepted the Ensemble Performance Award for his co-stars in Revolutionary Road, which include his buddy and on-screen love interest Kate Winslet. Milk star Sean Penn nabbed the Desert Palm Achievement Award and he must have been happy with it because nobody ended up with his award jammed up their ass. I don't know if you know, but that one is a little on the temperamental side.

Fresh-faced Anne Hathaway took home a Desert Palm Achievement award as well for her performance in Rachel Getting Married. Also, I love that Suzanne Somers was there. Thighmasters for everyone!

While Anne Hathaway wears a sensible black pant suit and heels, Kate Hudson is left holding the ugly bouquet (so to speak). That's the perfect way to stick it to a costar you can't stand - dress better then they do on the red carpet.

Not sure how I feel about Anne's hair though? And how the hell did Dina Lohan get an invite?

Starring as warring brides in the Bridezilla horror flick Bride Wars (at least it appears to scare the shit out of my boyfriend every time the trailer plays on the television), Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson were more than pleasant to one another as they were spotted leaving a building in New York during promotion of their movie.

Check out Anne's super-high red heels. She should get a medal for walking around in those shoes. And though I love to tease Kate for oh-so-many reasons, she does have an eclectic taste in jewelry that I can appreciate. That big red amulet looks pretty cool. Did she get that from some ancient Egyptian tomb somewhere? Could be. The woman does love living dangerously.

Uh oh. Someone call Brendan Fraser. We might have a mummy situation on our hands, if we're not careful.

Here's a look at the couples who just couldn't make the love last in 2008.

Crackheads (let's not mince words) Amy Winehouse and husband Blake Fielder-Civil seemed like two junkies that had it all. But when Fielder-Civil decided not to inform his beloved that he would be spending the remainder of his 27 month prison sentence in a rehab facility, the crack rock split. A German model also allegedly had something to do with the end of their drug love. Winehouse reportedly refused to pay for his rehab, and began telling people that they were over. Fielder-Civil failed a drug test and was sent back to the pokey.

VD factory Paris Hilton and the less charming of the Madden brothers (and that's saying something) Benji ended their nine-month relationship last month because the general public public just couldn't take having to stomach the image of the two of them having sex anymore.

Brooding actor Ryan Gosling and his go-to girl Rachel McAdams ended it AGAIN this year. The Notebook stars got back together this summer for another try and were photographed having a kissy breakfast in Canada. Apparently they can't get their schedules to gel, or they realized that after the sex is over they really hate each other.

Boring piece of toast Marilyn Manson and Evan Rachel Wood, and the young actress he transformed into his ex-wife Dita Von Teese, ended whatever the creepy Lolita/"I can't get over my ex-wife" thing they had going on. Supposedly, he was too controlling, but Wood said that wasn't the case.

Anne Hathaway had to jettison her boyfriend of four years, Rafaello Follieri, after she realized the Feds were on to his highly illegal investment scheme. She did it right before he got pinched because dumping a guy in an orange jumpsuit seems kind of cruel.

And the biggest split of all this year had to have been between Madonna and Guy Ritchie in October. The public at large saw it coming. They were married for close to eight years and you could see how much living with her was slowly draining the life out of him. The 76 million should serve to rejuvenate him, though.

2008 was a tumultuous year for more than a few celebrities. Here's our look at some of the ones who defined the word "survivor" this year.

A-list Anne Hathaway has been a star on the rise since The Devil Wears Prada opposite Meryl Streep catapulted her into the superstar realm in 2006. Unfortunately, her relationship with longtime boyfriend Rafaello Follieri didn't follow the same track. The Italian real estate developer, whom Hathaway had dated since 2004, was arrested in June of this year for reportedly fleecing investors out of millions of dollars in a fraud scheme. Hathaway, knowing that Follieri was under investigation by the Feds, broke up with him in the same month. Anne's diaries were also seized as evidence by the authorities. "It's a situation where the rug was pulled out from under me all of a sudden. But just as suddenly, my friends threw another rug back under me. One said, 'Go stay at my house.' " she later said about the break-up. Follieri went to jail, and Hathaway is reportedly dating again, being linked with both Josh Lucas and actor Adam Shulman. So she bounced back. Let's just hope that she insists on total honesty in a relationship from now on...

Jennifer Aniston seems to have gotten stronger and stronger since ex-husband Brad Pitt fell in love with his co-star Angelina Jolie on the set of Mr. and Mrs. Smith and they divorced in 2005. Since then, Aniston has often been portrayed as the sad victim of a villainous vamp who stole her man. Subsequent relationships with Vince Vaughn, British model Paul Sculfor, and John Mayer did little to change that image. It wasn't until recently, when Aniston got back together with Mayer after seemingly asserting herself over his formerly constant paparazzi whoring, that she finally seemed to come into her own again. Aniston recently appeared nude except for a men's necktime on the cover of GQ, looking happy and now even jokes about her divorce in interviews. She even says that her and Pitt keep in touch and remain somewhat friendly. $10 says she still keep her "Angelina Is A Slut" shrine up just in case she relapses.

Director Guy Ritchie had a rough year, but ultimately got one over on ex-wife Madonna in the end. Ritchie, who married Madge in 2000, seemed to have spent the last years of their marriage as nothing more than Madonna's coat carrier and husband accessory. Madonna, a known control freak, reportedly had him on an extremely tight leash, insisted he practice her Kabbalah religion, and would spend months apart from him on one tour or another. Their icy marriage came to a head when her reportedly ongoing affair with New York Yankee Alex Rodriguez was revealed this summer. The couple officially split in October, and it was recently alleged that Ritchie will reportedly receive around $76 million of Madonna's vast fortune in their settlement. He's also said to be dating Kelly Reilly, an actress in his new Sherlock Holmes movie that he's currently filming. Guy Ritchie: 76, Madonna: 0.

And 2008's truest survivor was Oscar-winning singer and actress Jennifer Hudson. In October, Hudson's mother, brother and 7-year-old nephew were were murdered. The prime suspect, William Balfour, has been arrested and charged with the killings and is set to go on trial. He is the estranged husband of Hudson's sister, and the senseless crimes reportedly occurred over an argument about a borrowed car. Hudson, devastated by the loss, had just released her debut album in September. She is continuing to work (the album scored four Grammy nominations) and seemingly taking it day by day and our hats are off to her. Strong lady.

It was a year filled with tragedy, evil-doing and dumbass behavior. Let's take a look.

Stalking was at an all-time high this year, with Jennifer Garner, Alyssa Milano and Kirsten Dunst filing for orders of protection against crazies who kept bothering them. That kind of shit is one reason not to go into acting.

In July, actor Shia LaBeouf got his truck rolled after he was in a traffic accident at an Hollywood intersection. It was ruled to be the other driver's fault, but LaBeouf was also found to be drunk at the scene, and cited for a misdemeanor. Someone knows someone down at the police station. LaBeouf severely injured his hand in the wreck.

Anne Hathaway's boyfriend of four years Rafaello Follieri went to prison for getting rich people to invest in his fake Vatican property scheme. Hathaway dumped him right before he was arrested which makes one wonder just how much involvement she had in his arrest.

Heather Locklear was busted for DUI at the end of September in Montecito, CA and gave us one of the saddest crazy eyes mugshots of the year. Locklear was reportedly loopy on pills at the time and had recently been treated for depression. She faces up to six months in jail.

Nick Hogan, dimwit son to Hulk, went to jail in May for felony reckless driving for a street racing accident which left his best friend in a permanent vegetative state. Hogan's behavior during his imprisonment (whining on the phone to his parents, etc.) was rank and there was a definite "blame the victim" mentality among him and his family members. He was released early in October for good behavior before he could be rightfully tattooed on his ass and employed as someone's prag.

In April rage-a-holic supermodel Naomi Campbell threw a wobbly at Heathrow Airport when one of her bags wasn't allowed on the plane. She reportedly spit at and hurled racist epithets (as opposed to her cell phone) at responding police officers and was arrested. But then she was released to terrorize the world once more!

George O'Dowd (Boy George to you and I) was recently convicted of assaulting and falsely imprisoning a Norweigian male prostitute in November of 2007. George apparently chained him to his apartment wall and beat him with some more chain. He's a big fan of Home Depot.

Mark Ruffalo's brother's Scott's shooting death this month was recently found to be a homicide. Two suspects have already been treated and released. The death was initially believed to be from a game of Russian roulette.

And lastly, the most tragic (besides the above) celebrity crime this year were the murders of Jennifer Hudson's mother, brother and 7-year old nephew in October. The crimes, which were reportedly committed by Jennifer's brother-in-law, made national headlines in October.

Decked out in shimmery brown and bronze, Angela Bassett joined actor Eric McCormack and SAG President Alan Rosenberg to announce nominations for the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

God, once awards season starts, there's no stopping it until every single bronze, gold, glittery statuette has been handed out. And since the SAG Awards cover both television and film, the list of nominations is LONG. You can check out the full list after the jump.

Except for Melissa Leo, who is nominated for her performance in Frozen River, the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role nominations are filled with powerhouse stars Angelina Jolie, Meryl Streep, Kate Winslet and Anne Hathaway.

Their male counterparts include Sean Penn, Brad Pitt, Frank Langella, Mickey Rourke and Richard Jenkins.
