Oprah Parties With President Elect Obama

Share

An early high-profile cheerleader of Barack Obama this election season, talk show host Oprah Winfrey celebrated in Grant Park in her hometown of Chicago. She was joined by a crowd of campaign supporters who included an emotional Rev. Jesse Jackson.

Dressed in a bright green sweater, Winfrey stood out in the sea of red, white and blue flags that waved excitedly as President Elect Obama gave his acceptance speech on stage.

When she has him on her show for an interview, which she undoubtedly will, you just know she'll end the Q&A by saying, "Take a look under your seat Mr. Obama...you're holding the key to Air Force One!" And it really will be the key to Air Force One because she's just that powerful.

Courteney Cox Arquette Throws Party To Celebrate Obama Victory

Share

E! reports that Courteney Cox Arquette and her husband David Arquette threw a party at their Los Angeles home last night to celebrate Barack Obama's historic victory. Guests included Courteney's best friend Jennifer Aniston (minus John Mayer, he probably had a date with the paparazzi), Sacha Baron Cohen, and his fiancee Isla Fisher.

David Arquette reportedly trotted out with champagne for the paps after Obama's win was announced. He was also probably trying to escape Aniston's latest every 20 minutes discussion of how "this is really it" with Mayer and her eternal ponderation of baby names. Even Courteney's probably given to half-hearted listening lately and distractedly nodded "uh huh" while trying to focus on CNN.

Other celebs were on hand in Chicago. As already reported, Oprah Winfrey was front and center for Obama's victory speech, and Brad Pitt was reportedly in Chi-town as well.

George Clooney even released a statement! A statement! Good, because you know we were all waiting on the edge of our seats for his thoughts and feelings.

"I congratulate President-elect Obama on his historic victory, and now it's time to begin unifying the country so we can take on the extraordinary challenges that this generation faces," he said. Clooney claims he didn't campaign for Obama because he thought his fame would interfere. There was really no need to fear that kind of thing after McCain took on the hockey mom.

Barack Obama Makes History As The World Watches

Share

What a night! That kiss! Is anyone else a little awed after being caught in the wake of the tidal wave of goddamn history? Barack Obama, 47, is the first African-American President of the United States! Obama gave his victory speech during a rally of over 240,000 people (including a teary-eyed Oprah Winfrey and Rev. Jesse Jackson) in Chicago's Grant Park last night. "Change has come to America," he said.

"The road ahead will be long. Our climb will be steep. We may not get there in one year or even one term, but America -- I have never been more hopeful than I am tonight that we will get there. I promise you -- we as a people will get there," our new President Elect said. He's the 44th president, and will be sworn in on Jan. 20.

On the other side, Obama's opponent during the long campaign, Republican Senator John McCain, gave his concession speech in Phoenix yesterday.

"We have come to an end of a long journey. The American people have spoken, and they have spoken clearly," a gracious McCain said.

And now we begin. Don't worry, though. There's going to be a big party first. Oprah Winfrey reportedly told a Chicago radio station yesterday that she's already had her inauguration gown picked out for awhile. Girlfriend can pick the winners. Well, not James Frey.

President Elect Barack Obama Asks For Unity

Share

The man has his work cut of for him, that's for sure, and he acknowledged that in his speech last night.

"We know the challenges that tomorrow will bring are the greatest of our lifetime -- two wars, a planet in peril, the worst financial crisis in a century," Obama said in his victory speech in Chicago's Grant Park. "There is new energy to harness and new jobs to be created, new schools to build and threats to meet and, for us to lead, alliances to repair."

He said the solutions wouldn't be quick or easy -- perhaps not even achievable with one term. "I promise you -- we as a people will get there," Obama said.

Everyone, grab a cocktail, and join Barack Obama in preparing yourselves for the time of your life!

Introducing President Barack Obama!

Share

In a sweeping victory, the United States has just elected its very first black president!

Voters turned out in record-breaking numbers this election season with Democratic candidates Barack Obama and his running mate Joe Biden winning the presidential race over Republicans John McCain and Sarah Palin.

Congratulations to our new president! This was a historic year on both sides, with the GOP providing the U.S. with the first female vice-presidential candidate on their ticket.

Between the campaign and the Olympics this summer, it's probably a fair assessment that the entire country is going to need a nice, long nap to recover from the excitement of this year.

(CORRECTION: We neglected to remember Geraldine Ferraro from the 1984 election, who was the first female VP nominee on a presidential ticket. Sorry about that. Election day excitement got the better of us!)

Barack Obama Loses His Celebrity Entourage

Share

The darling of Hollywood Democrats, Barack Obama has received substantial amounts of public celebrity support throughout the course of his presidential campaign.

However, the mourning politician has instructed his high-profile supporters to give him a wide berth this evening, according to TMZ. A spy revealed, "There really only needs to be one star in Grant Park and that's Barack." Except for Oprah Winfrey, of course. All hail her majesty, the Mighty O!

If Obama is successful in his bid for the presidency, then he's going to of course invite his famous friends to celebrate with him for the inauguration. Party at Barack's house!

Returning to her MySpace blog to vent, Lindsay Lohan published a post last night entitled "VOTE," hoping to rally her fans into taking it to the polls today. The actress, who has already spoken out in support of Democratic candidate Barack Obama made her political stance clear by writing:

obama for president :)
VOTE NO ON PROP 8
VOTE NO ON PROP 4

Prop 8 is the initiative hoping to ban same sex marriage and Prop 4 is the Abortion Waiting Period and Parental Notification Initiative, both of which are on the ballot in California.

And being political can give a person quite an appetite with Lindsay here stocking up on Chinese food from Panda Express in Pavillions for her and girlfriend Samantha Ronson.

Hip Hop Stars Promote The Vote

With election day creeping up in a few hours, Jay-Z, Beyonce, Sean Combs and Mary J. Blige took to the streets in Philadelphia as a last-minute campaign effort to encourage voters to take it to the polls tomorrow for Barack Obama.

In between performances just outside the city's historic Uptown Theater, the hip hop artists chatted with the 10,000 strong audience about the historic occasion. "Rosa Parks sat so Martin Luther King could walk. Martin Luther King walked so Obama could run. Obama's running so we all can fly," Jay-Z told the crowd.

Diddy said, "I was too scared to say it because I thought I would be laughed at. It's a new day right now and my son is in fourth grade and when they ask him what he wants to be, now he can say he wants to be president of the United States. That's all because of Barack Obama."

And MJ said, "No more drama! It's time for Obama!" OK, she didn't, but in a perfect world, she would have!
