Courteney Cox And Gwyneth Paltrow Are Honored For Cancer Efforts

Share

Last night Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson were the master of ceremonies at the 14th Annual Saks Fifth Avenue's Unforgettable Evening, which gave a special nod to women's cancer research activists Courteney Cox and Gwyneth Paltrow.

Both actresses glowed in their white gowns, and were joined by cancer research co-chairs Steven Spielberg and Kate Capshaw, as well as Jay-Z and Beyonce - who belted out some "Sasha Fierce" tunes for the party.

But considering the event was supposed to be about, well, cancer, Gwyneth's acceptance speech seemed a little odd.  The Oscar-winning actress likened herself to a "housewife" and then self-consciously announced (guess she's been reading the rumors?) that her hubby Chris Martin's absence was due to "being in Japan" for Coldplay business.

Whoa Gywn, put away the excuse book.  David Arquette couldn't make it either!

Etta James Is A Comedian, Eating Her Words

Share

Etta James now says the whole Obama-has-big-ears-and-Beyoncé-is-gonna-get-an-ass- whupping tirade, was just a silly, harmless joke.

"I didn't really mean anything," she told the New York Daily News. "Even as a little child, I've always had that comedian kind of attitude. ... That's probably what went into it."

That's probably what went into it? Be honest, Etta. How do you really feel about Beyon-whatever-her-name-is, singing "At Last" your signature song?

"James said she was "feeling left out of something that was basically mine, that I had done every time you look around." She said she liked Beyoncé's performance, but when asked if she thought she could have done better, James answered, "I think so. That's a shame to say that."

There's no shame in that, Etta! Oh, hell no! Fifteen pounds and a blond wig doesn't make some diva-in-training your replacement.

And bravo for attempting to make a funny about the president. Even Chris Rock said that was impossible.

Etta James Isn't A Beyonce Fan

Share

"At Last" singer Etta James seemed pleased with the performance Beyonce Knowles delivered in Cadillac Records, that is, until she took to the stage at a concert in Seattle not that long ago. YB&F reported that Ms. James was none too pleased with Beyonce's rendition of her signature song for Michelle and Barack Obama's first dance as President and First Lady.

You guys know your president, right? You know, the one with the big ears? Yeah, wait a minute, he ain't my president. He might be yours. He ain't my president. But I tell you, that woman he had singing for him, singing my song, she's gonna get her ass whooped.

Here's the full audio clip of her on-stage rant. Apparently, it's all fun and games with Etta until you get the president involved.

Barack Obama Shakes It To 'Single Ladies'

Share

Don't expect our new president to step out in a black unitard and heels anytime soon, but Barack Obama has admitted that he's a fan of the Beyonce Knowles dance anthem "Single Ladies."

At the inaugural celebration attended by a host of celebs, Michelle Obama revealed her hubby's penchant for recreating B's trademark ditty. "Mr. President, you didn't tell Beyonce about 'Single Ladies'? Your rendition?" Michelle joked when the president came to shake the singer's hand. Barack jokingly admitted to being a fan, but clarified, "I didn't put on the outfit."

But if you like it, then he would appreciate if you would put a ring on it.

The Obamas' First Dance

Share

Barack Obama and Michelle Obama (in her now much talked about ivory Jason Wu gown) enjoyed their first dance last night on Inauguration Night at the Neighborhood Ball whilst being serenaded by Beyonce. Beyonce kept Sasha Fierce from coming alive on stage and managed to give Barack and Michelle their moment. Mostly. You know it was her idea to have her own spotlight going. Egotist.

"First of all, how good looking is my wife?" Obama asked the crowd. Yay! How? A lot. As a friend of mine remarked, it's about time we had some hot people in the White House.

Beyonce sang Etta James' "At Last," and the couple was formally introduced by Denzel Washington. Get this - they hit TEN inaugural balls last night. Ten. And they probably weren't even allowed to drink. When club-hopping becomes a chore. After the 7th dance, Shell musta been like "Can you go get us out of Iraq now, while I save the economy? My dogs are barking."

What a night. This hat will always be part of our fondest memories.

Stars Shine On Inaugural Stage, Welcoming Our 44th President

But none shone brighter than President Barack Obama and his first lady, Michelle Obama, decked out in her custom-made outfit. It's full-on Obamarama, folks! Oprah Winfrey, the woman behind the man (let's be honest, here) was smiling a big grin. That one's future is so bright, she better be wearing shades, lest she be blinded. She's got enough problems with her thyroid--she needs those eyes!

Beyoncé Knowles looked sleek with her long, glamorous hair, sunglasses and black leather gloves. And holy hell, when did she start dating black, Russian Napoleon Dynamite? I love it! Jay-Z baked her a cake and would like to tell you how he spent his summer with his uncle in Alaska, hunting wolverines.

In an interview before the inauguration, Magic Johnson was asked about Obama's quip that he planned on turning the bowling alley in the White House into a baskeball court and wanted the former Laker legend to come by for a game. The interviewer asked Johnson if he'd go easy on the new president to which Magic responded, "I'll go easy on him if he goes easy on my taxes." Ha! Prepare for an elbow to the gut, Barack!

Obama Celebrated At Star-Studded 'We Are One' Concert

Share

Washington D.C. morphed into Hollywood yesterday for the We Are One: The Obama Inaugural Celebration at the Lincoln Memorial. Stars everywhere helped kick off Barack Obama's inauguration and rallied the crowds with a series of speeches and performances.

Denzel Washington gave the introductory speech, Laura Linney spoke about Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Marin Luther King III quoted from John F. Kennedy. Queen Latifah also spoke saying: "We're celebrating not just the Inauguration of a new president, but the journey of America continuing to be America."

However, probably most inspiring were the musical performances.

Bruce Springstreen sang the post-911 anthem "The Rising" Mary J. Blige sang "Lean On Me" while Sheryl Crow and Will.I.Am united for Bob Marley's "One Love.

The most anticipated of all the performances was when U2 performed "Pride (In the Name of Love)" and "City of Blinding Lights."

Beyonce was the glittery, grande finale, singing "America the Beautiful."
Below is Beyonce's performance of "America the Beautiful."

Beyonce To Serenade Barack And Michelle Obama

Share

Well, Beyonce made sure she'd be in the middle of history. Wait, before we get to the actual story part of this post, let's tackle what she's got on. This is what B-Day wore to the NYC premiere of the Biggie biopic, Notorious. What do you think? I think that she's trying to be edgy but it just looks like she wrapped some fabric around herself. This is so phoned in. And the color..peas....FAIL.

Anyway, she could care less what we think about her. She's gotten the honor of singing the song that Barack and Michelle Obama will have their first dance to on Inauguration Night - "At Last," by Etta James. Why not have Etta sing it. She's alive, isn't she?

"I am so honored that I will be performing for President Obama and the First Lady," she says in a statement. "To sing "At Last'" while they have their first dance is a dream come true," she says. "I could not be more honored and excited that they have asked me to be part of this moment in history."

Just don't wear whoever put you in that mess. And don't go the camel toe bodysuit route. You looked good here. Stick with that.

Beyonce Knowles: 2009 Golden Globes Red Carpet

Share

This is Beyonce Knowles and she's a whole lotta woman! Pouring her bootylicious self into a silver-sequined off-white Elie Saab gown, the Cadillac Records actress was pearlescent on the red carpet. Is that a real word? Do I care?

Nominated for the song "Once in a Lifetime" in the film where she portrays singer Etta James, Knowles kicked up the high wattage with her radiant smile, as well as some serious jewelry.

Truly, diamonds are Beyonce's best friend as the Lorraine Schwartz necklace and earrings were the icing on the cake that is her outfit.

Mmmm...cake.

'Notorious' Premieres In New York To Warm Hip Hop Reception

Share

MTV News gave a positive review of the Biggie biopic, Notorious, which premiered Wednesday night in New York, saying that Sean Combs "had a pleased smile on his face" when he left the theater. This is good news for the the star of the film Jamaal Woolard, who played the big man himself, real name Christopher Wallace.

The mother of the late rapper Voletta Wallace was played by Angela Bassett and the two women posed together on the red carpet for pix. Other hip hop and R&B stars were in attendance including Mary J. Blige, Fabolous, Ja Rule, Ciara and Biggie's widow Faith Evans.

Coco and Ice-T wore his and hers leather ensembles to the event. I wonder what Coco's up to. And if she ever doesn't feel like a cover girl of her own magazine.
