News Bites: Anne Hathaway Fetches A Pretty Penny

-At the Cracked X-mas Fundraiser in Los Angeles, a charity auction for a date with Anne Hathaway resulted in a $12,000 winning bid for a night out with the Rachel Getting Married actress. As the dollar amount kept increasing, the star told the crowd, "I'm blushing. Wow, I feel really good right now."

-Perez Hilton has a book coming out. We're guessing it's a picture book with some cleverly drawn squiggles. A perfect holiday present for those friends and family who think reading looks like fun, but are intimidated by all the thinking that usually goes along with it.

-An arrest warrant has been issued by Beverly Hills police for Shaha Mishaal Adham in the shooting of Mark Ruffalo's brother, Scott, who remains in critical condition at a hospital in L.A. Not yet in custody is the other suspect in the case, Brian Scofield.

Tila Tequila Rambles Something To Her Haters

Responding to her "haters," MySpace personality and authoress Tila Tequila recorded a YouTube video in a public restroom (at least that's what it looks like) to defend her fans against evil commenters talking trash.

Using such cutting arguments as, "Like seriously? Like seriously?" Tila and her fans are too busy living their lives to the fullest to be bothered with haters! She's a published author, for God's sake! She has a "hot spot" to maintain!

Like seriously, she is. Haven't you read Hooking Up with Tila Tequila: A Guide to Love, Fame, Happiness, Success, and Being the Life of the Party? That thing is totally going to make Oprah's book list. It's the new Eat, Pray, Love.

And can we just say it's a good thing this one didn't throw her hat into the presidential ring because with oratorical skills like that...we're just saying. Barack Obama would have been in some serious trouble.

News Bites: Tom Cruise Laughs Off Amazon Bully Claims

-Tom Cruise denies he pressured Amazon to stop selling copies of The Complex, the tell-all written by self-described "former high-ranking member" of Scientology John Duignan. Amazon claims the Irish-published tome made "false claims" and U.K. law forbids the sale. 5 days after the book went online for sale, Tom showed up at the Amazon headquarters in Seattle to host a sneak peek of his new film Valkyrie. Hmm...

-After 19 years of marriage, CSI actress Marg Helgenberger and her husband Alan Rosenberg have announced their separation. The couple, who have an 18-year-old son together, had their rep tell People, "They love and respect each other and remain committed to their family."

-A spy for W magazine spotted Gossip Girl co-stars Ed Westwick and Jessica Szohr flirting and kissing, "definitely on the lips," is the description given. "They were being very flirty when people were not paying attention," the snitch clarified. Those Gossip boys sure seem to like kissing girls, whatever that means.

Rights To Twilight Sequels Obtained

The first Twilight movie has yet to premiere and already the production company behind the film, Summit Entertainment, has secured its future in the franchise by purchasing the rights to the next three books in the five book series.

Writers have already been assigned to develop the Stephenie Meyer teenage vampire romances New Moon and Eclipse, with a writer yet to be assigned to Breaking Dawn.

Already, fans of the book series have responded overwhelmingly to the cast of Twilight, starring Kristen Stewart as the story's protagonist Bella Swan. In fact, here she is getting signing autographs for fans at Hot Topic (a vampire fan hangout) with co-star Nikki Reed.

It's hard to tell if Kristen is looking sultry, or completely annoyed. Either way, it's hot.

Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen Protested At Book Signing

When the Olsen twins showed up for the most recent book signing for the collection of interviews they're recently published entitled Influence, they were met by eager PETA protesters carrying signs and wearing "Trollsen" masks.

The event took place at a Borders store in Westwood with the animal rights activists mixing and mingling with some of Mary-Kate and Ashley Oslen's biggest fans, eager to catch a glimpse of the waifish twins.

PETA's campaign against the 22-year-old fashion moguls started back in 2007 after noticing how frequently the ladies step out in real fur and its in their Row clothing line.

It would be far less offensive if instead of fur, they opted to use the pelts of useless celebrities. There'd be more than enough to go around.

Miley Cyrus Supports The Crazy

The Hannah Montana star showed up for Stephen Baldwin's book signing a the Lifeway Christian Store in Franklin, Tennessee. Churchgoing Miley Cyrus posed for pictures at the event, along with her mother and boyfriend Justin Gaston as Baldwin promoted his tome, The Death and Life of Gabriel Phillips.

The Biodome star is a born-again Christian, consorting with such morally-upright individuals as family man Michael Lohan. I love how classy this bunch is. Especially when Stephen's pointing to a tattoo on his arm, with Miley's toothy grin hovering just above it and you know Miley's cougar-looking mom Leticia Cyrus is just out of frame.

Is that an "HM?" Does that stand for Hannah Montana? I hope so because that would be so deliciously creepy.

The 'Influence' Of Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen

Teensy fashionista bag-ladies, as I like to call them, Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen are doing the rounds to promote their interview book Influence. The little women were just on Oprah talking about the candid interviews they had with their idols, who include Diane Von Furstenberg, Karl Lagerfeld and Terry Richardson.

I have to say that this Oprah interview really was a great opportunity to remember that these two 22-year-olds have been working since they were 9 months old. That's an even earlier start than Michael Jackson, Britney Spears and Drew Barrymore had.

Here they are at a book signing for their newly-published tome. I know I'm totally kind of gushing here, but this NY Times article about the girls reminds me that they don't exactly fit the mold of "the sisterhood of young women famous only for their professional apathy."

Gee, whoever could they be talking about? Perhaps any young member of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Panties.

Russell Brand's Comedy Is Hazardous To His Health

It wasn't just Jordin Sparks who felt the need to speak up in response Russell Brand's jokes on stage during his hosting gig for this year's MTV Video Music Awards. After Brand referred to President George W. Bush as a "retard," he received some very disturbing correspondence.

During a radio interview, Brand said of the VMAs, "That was a lot of fun, especially the death threat." Jokingly, he added, "If you are going to kill someone, don't give them advance notice, that gives you a chance to prepare."

Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe it was Jordin Sparks.

Buy Alec's Book, You Rude & Thoughtless Little Pig

My favorite crazy celebrity Irish father, Alec Baldwin, reportedly was hosting his own personal roast of his ex-wife at a private party held to celebrate the launch of his new book. Entitled A Promise to Ourselves: Fatherhood, Divorce and Family Law, the tome is his take on the court system, most specifically his experience as a father involved in a custody battle.

At the party, Baldwin referred to Kim Basinger, with whom he's been embroiled in a very public, very painful custody battle, "My ex-wife reaches an almost sexual level of satisfaction when she's in a room full of highpriced lawyers." But Kim wasn't his only target. The 30 Rock actor also said, "There are serious repercussions for children living in a fatherless home. I won't name names - Lindsay Lohan!"

Go, he's so Jack Donaghy. I imagine he was wearing a tuxedo, while delivering this quip, a pointed index finger in one hand and a Scotch on the rocks in the other.

Barbara Walters Suddenly Pretends To Take The High Road

Ha! I love this! Earlier in the week, Barbara Walters was on Oprah talking about her new book. During the interview, Barbara confirmed what we all pretty much knew, and that is how much Star Jones annoyed the piss out of all the other ladies.

Star responded by saying that Barbara was old ("in the sunset of her life") and a hoochie-mama ("publicly branding herself as an adulterer") and we realize that we've already covered this territory, but we liked it so much, we decided to say it twice.

Meanwhile, Barbara's now opting to leave well enough alone (at least until her next book comes out) and her rep told the New York Daily News, "She will not dignify this with a response." The rep also added, "Barbara's written words say it all." Ooh, I hope there are pictures to go along with those words.

Meanwhile, you know that as Star sat down by her little lawyah's desk and put on her smart glasses to formulate her response, all she could think was how happy she was that this feud had the potential to completely distract from her awkward divorce.
