Shia LaBeouf Ties With Ray Romano At Box Office

Share

It was a draw this weekend. Shia LaBeouf's Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and Ray Romano's Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs tied with $42.5 million each. Final numbers will come out later today as to which movie came in first, but regardless it was a very close race.

Universal's crime saga Public Enemies, starring Johnny Depp and Christian Bale, debuted a solid No. 3 with $26.2 million.

With a $293.5 million domestic total after just 12 days, Transformers shot past Disney and Pixar Animation's Up to become the year's highest-grossing movie.

'Public Enemies' Takes On 'Transformers'

Share

The period piece Public Enemies could hardly be expected to take on the giant robots and Megan Fox's wicked curves in Transformers, however, it's looking like the Johnny Depp-starring vehicle will be holding its own against the summer action flick.

Although the earmarked-for-an-Oscar-nominated movie isn't expected to bump Revenge of the Fallen out of the top spot, the Michael Mann-directed pic is predicted to nab between $20 to 30 million in its opening weekend.

This would put the movie in third place for the opening weekend, the most impressive for a non-Pirates of the Caribbean movie for Johnny and the best for Mann. Yay! I love when smart movies win.

'Transformers' Box Office Bonanza

Share

Despite the fact that other than the special effects, the Tranformers pretty much sucked. However, it didn't suck at the box office.

The five-day opening gross of $201.2 million from 4,234 theaters domestically easily eclipsed the $152.4 million earned by Spider-Man 2, which previously held the five-day record for a Wednesday launch. And Transformers 2 nearly matched the best five-day gross of all time: $203.8 million for WB's The Dark Knight.

Paramount's Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen broke records in several countries overseas, leading to a massive $387.3 million worldwide through Sunday, one of the best global launches ever.

Nice going Megan Fox and Shia LaBeouf!

'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen' Has Best Wednesday Opening Ever

Share

Well, Michael Bay, looks like you win again. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen grossed a record $60.6 million on its first day, making it the best opening day every for a Wednesday release.

With its $60.6 million, Transformers 2 beat previous record-holder for a Wednesday release, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which made $44.4 million during its Wednesday release in 2007.

The movie made $16 million in midnight runs alone, making it the third-best midnight Wednesday release after The Dark Knight, which made $18.5 million, and Star Wars: Episode III- Revenge of the Sith, which made $16.9 million.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is predicted to make at least $100 million more during the week. No wonder everyone looks so happy at the premiere.

Well, now we know what those robots were disguised as: money. Obviously there is more to them than meets the eye. Haha!

'The Hangover' Was Big This Weekend

Share

While The Hangover, starring Bradley Cooper, looked like it was going to take the weekend after Friday's big ticket sales, the Disney-Pixar film Up, remained No. 1 at an impressive $44.2 million.

The strength of Hangover's domestic debut ($44.3 million) -- one of the top openings ever for an R-rated comedy -- was one of the biggest surprises of the year since tracking showed the film opening in the mid- to high-20s.

The big loser of the weekend was Will Farrell, whose Land of the Lost opened to an estimated $19.5 million from 3,521 theaters, well below the $30 million the studio had hoped for.

If anyone feels like giving Will a hug next time you see him, go for it.

'Terminator' Hits Number Two Spot On Weekend Box Office

Share

With all of its futuristic robots and apocalyptic images, Terminator Salvation was unable to blast past its formidable foe at the box office, Night at the Museum.

The family flick starring Ben Stiller nabbed the top spot over the weekend with $70 million, while the Christian Bale sci-fi movie brought in $67 million.

After the impressive ticket sales from his last big action blockbuster, The Dark Knight, Christian's got to be a little let down. But then again, that's a tough act to follow.

'Star Trek' Pleases Fans While Chris Pine Teases Them

Share

Early big box office returns have made J.J. Abrams' version of Star Trek a success and its stars Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto action heroes.

Pine, who plays a young Capt. James Kirk in the film, has admitted that his version of the character was influenced by actor William Shatner. And in this sketch on this past episode of Saturday Night Live, Pine again borrowed from Shatner.

Paired up with his Star Trek co-star Zachary Quinto, Pine did his own version of Shatner's infamous "Get A Life" sketch in which Quinto pleads with avid fans of the sci-fi series, "You've got to stop harassing us."

These two represent a kinder, gentler version of the sketch, the original 1986 version featuring William Shatner in a vintage SNL clip can be seen after the jump.

America Is 'Obsessed' With Beyonce Knowles

Share

Apparently, we're not the only ones who think that the over-the-top thriller that has Beyonce Knowles flicking her crazy raspberry-highlighted curls over her shoulders and tussling with Ali Larter is the most amazing thing since sliced bread.

Obsessed, the flick starring the pop star topped the weekend box office its opening weekend. The tense relationship movie co-starring Idris Elba from The Wire brought in $28.5 million.

We're going to place the credit for the wild success of Obsessed solely on Beyonce's glorious train worn at the movie's NYC screening.
