'Fast & Furious' Explodes At Box Office, Inspires SNL Parody




Despite the fact that Vin Diesel has pulled some diva antics during this round of promoting his film Fast & Furious, the action flick managed to kick off its opening weekend with a bang.

Taking in a whopping $72.5 million in it its opening weekend, the car-themed movie now olds the title of the biggest opener this year. Head of distribution Nikki Rocco thinks the appeal is as following, "For the audience, the first main reason to see the movie was the action, then the car racing, then Vin Diesel."

Jumping on the Fast & Furious bandwagon, Saturday Night Live has introduced their addition to the gas-fueled franchise, Fast & Bi-Curious. It's happy sexy time with Seth Rogen and Andy Samburg.

'Twilight' DVD Sales Are Killer, 'New Moon' Production Pictures




Repeating the wild box office success of the big screen release of Twilight has proven to be an easy task. Fans of the movie have dutifully gone out and purchased the DVD, tempted with the promise of special features and previously unseen footage. In fact, sales have been so stellar that Twilight can be included in the top five best first-day DVD releases of the past two years.

Stars of the film have also done their part to promote DVD sales with Ashley Green seen in these photos at the launch party and previously palling around at a DVD launch event at Kitson with Kellan Lutz and Rachelle Lefevre. You would think she would be exhausted, but vampires don't need sleep like us mere mortals.

As for New Moon, more photos taken from the set have become available--as well as some video footage of character Jacob Black's truck--for your viewing pleasure. Sink your fangirl (and boy) teeth into these, my friends.

Can Julia Roberts Still Work Big Box Office Magic?




Newsweek is asking this question, with the queen of romantic-comedy Julia Roberts poised to open what is essentially her first film in five years alongside Duplicity co-star Clive Owen.

Well-known for her smash success in the arena of romantic comedies, the sad truth is that these days, that genre of film is woefully suffering with few rare exceptions. But Julia still looks great and probably consoles herself with the millions upon millions she's earned over her prolific career of box office hits.

Also, it's hard to feel too bad for someone whose job has them hanging out and pretending to sex up Clive Owen.

'Watchmen' Has Fingers Crossed For Big Box Office




With midnight screenings of the graphic novel film adaptation of Watchmen selling out (all protestations from Hitler aside), hopes are high for the film to attain 300 levels of box office revenue.

The disappointment of the recent Jonas Brothers movie opening weekend ticket sales has put a slight damper on expectations for the superhero action flick, invoking the following reaction from Paul Dergarabedian of Media By Numbers and Hollywood.com: "I'm not saying it's not going to do amazingly well, [but] I'm reticent to go out on a limb."

Meanwhile, here are two delicious reasons to go check out the flick over the weekend. Watchmen stars Patrick Wilson and Jeffrey Dean Morgan hit up the Apple store in SoHo to talk with fans about the film in the hopes. But now, it's in the hands of fanboys and fangirls.

Midnight Screenings Of 'Watchmen' Selling Out




With the release of the graphic novel film adaptation Watchmen set to premiere on Friday, midnight screenings on Thursday in New York City, San Diego and Dallas have already sold out.

Female stars from the film glowed on the red carpet. Movie vixen Carla Gugino looked like a dark-haired goddess in her emerald-green one shoulder dress and Malin Akerman showed off a complicated, but ultimately flattering (I think) figure-hugging dress with a fishtail.

And of course, Jeffrey Dean Morgan looks delicious as always. Get your tickets, kids, cause they're going fast.

Jonas Brothers Fall Short At Box Office




Opening weekend ticket sales for The Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience came in at $12.7 million, which is far less than the projected $25 million or so Nick, Joe and Kevin Jonas were expected to rake in.

Miley Cyrus set the bar high when she took in $31.1 million at the opening weekend for Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert. Disney's giving the excuse that Miley's movie was marketed with a one-week release as opposed to the Jonas movie, which "probably took some of the urgency away."

I expect a sassy YouTube posting by Miley Cyrus and her crony Mandy Jiroux. You just know that toothsome teen has something to say about this. And it better be obnoxious.

News Bites: Katie Holmes Is In Detox




-The specific reason that Katie Holmes chose not to attend the Academy Awards is reportedly the strict detox the actress is undergoing, which has left her exhausted. Reportedly, she's doing this in preparation for conceiving her second child with Tom Cruise and NOT because of a callous comment made by Suri Cruise about her mother's weight, as some news outlets are reporting.

-The siren song of the Jonas Brothers isn't as effective as we thought. The box office returns on the opening weekend of their movie Jonas Brothers: The 3D Experience. Initially, expectations for a $30 million weekend take were strong, but after taking in $4.8 million, that's not looking likely. Box office expert Jeff Bock told E!, "When you factor in the ticket prices, you're talking about a movie that's underperforming."

-Legendary radio personality Paul Harvey has passed away at the age of 90. Often referred to as "the voice of Middle America," the long-time radio host died near his winter home in Phoenix, at a nearby hospital. Good day!

News Bites: Hilary Duff Sees Dead People




-Old friends Jennifer Love Hewitt and Hilary Duff will be mixing business with friendship when Duff guest stars on Ghost Whisperer. Hilary says of her character, "I'm kind of being haunted by someone that I was in a relationship with before they passed away. He had unfinished business with me, and I'm having nightmares of being turned upside down in my apartment, like when I'm sleeping on the bed, I'm actually going to be hanging from the ceiling." Happens to the best of us, Hil.

-Five Killers will bring together Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl. Katherine discovers that her husband is a retired hitman and that their assassin neighbors have plans to murder them. To be fair, Katherine seems like she'd be hard to live next door to.

-Box office smash The Dark Knight has broken the one billion dollar mark, putting it in the number fourth place of highest grossing films of all time. Of that total, $533.1 million was made in the U.S. while overseas theaters brought in $468 million.

A 'Titanic' Academy Awards: 1997 Oscar Gallery





Back in 1997, Titanic swept the Academy Awards with a whopping 14 nominations. This effectively tied the epic James Cameron romance with All About Eve for holding the record for most Oscar nominations for a single film. That year, the film went on to win 11 Academy Awards.

This year, Leondardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet were reunited once again in their film Revolutionary Road. Although this time around, their film is only up for 3 Oscars, Kate herself has another chance at winning a tiny gold man for her role in The Reader, having been nominated as Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role.

Either way, it's good to see the old gang back together on the red carpet!

Brad Pitt's Happy To Be Starring In A Winner




OK, well The Curious Case of Benjamin Button hasn't won any Oscars yet, but the film is right behind Titanic and All About Eve in terms of all-time most Oscar nominations for a single movie.

With 13 nods to its credit, Benjamin Button needed only one more to have landed itself in a three-way tie with the other two films. At a press conference in Tokyo (he brought his brood along with him to Japan), Brad Pitt admitted that the critical recognition had him "thrilled."

"It means that more people get to see it and I think it's a worth film that deserves that kind of viewing--over and over again," Brad told the media. Hey, pipe down with your marketing. In case you hadn't hear, there's a recession going on. We can't afford to be going to the movies three times a day! The correct answer was, "It's an honor just to be nominated."
