Jonas Brothers Fall Short At Box Office

Opening weekend ticket sales for The Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience came in at $12.7 million, which is far less than the projected $25 million or so Nick, Joe and Kevin Jonas were expected to rake in.

Miley Cyrus set the bar high when she took in $31.1 million at the opening weekend for Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert. Disney's giving the excuse that Miley's movie was marketed with a one-week release as opposed to the Jonas movie, which "probably took some of the urgency away."

I expect a sassy YouTube posting by Miley Cyrus and her crony Mandy Jiroux. You just know that toothsome teen has something to say about this. And it better be obnoxious.

News Bites: Katie Holmes Is In Detox

-The specific reason that Katie Holmes chose not to attend the Academy Awards is reportedly the strict detox the actress is undergoing, which has left her exhausted. Reportedly, she's doing this in preparation for conceiving her second child with Tom Cruise and NOT because of a callous comment made by Suri Cruise about her mother's weight, as some news outlets are reporting.

-The siren song of the Jonas Brothers isn't as effective as we thought. The box office returns on the opening weekend of their movie Jonas Brothers: The 3D Experience. Initially, expectations for a $30 million weekend take were strong, but after taking in $4.8 million, that's not looking likely. Box office expert Jeff Bock told E!, "When you factor in the ticket prices, you're talking about a movie that's underperforming."

-Legendary radio personality Paul Harvey has passed away at the age of 90. Often referred to as "the voice of Middle America," the long-time radio host died near his winter home in Phoenix, at a nearby hospital. Good day!

News Bites: Hilary Duff Sees Dead People

-Old friends Jennifer Love Hewitt and Hilary Duff will be mixing business with friendship when Duff guest stars on Ghost Whisperer. Hilary says of her character, "I'm kind of being haunted by someone that I was in a relationship with before they passed away. He had unfinished business with me, and I'm having nightmares of being turned upside down in my apartment, like when I'm sleeping on the bed, I'm actually going to be hanging from the ceiling." Happens to the best of us, Hil.

-Five Killers will bring together Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl. Katherine discovers that her husband is a retired hitman and that their assassin neighbors have plans to murder them. To be fair, Katherine seems like she'd be hard to live next door to.

-Box office smash The Dark Knight has broken the one billion dollar mark, putting it in the number fourth place of highest grossing films of all time. Of that total, $533.1 million was made in the U.S. while overseas theaters brought in $468 million.

A 'Titanic' Academy Awards: 1997 Oscar Gallery

Back in 1997, Titanic swept the Academy Awards with a whopping 14 nominations. This effectively tied the epic James Cameron romance with All About Eve for holding the record for most Oscar nominations for a single film. That year, the film went on to win 11 Academy Awards.

This year, Leondardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet were reunited once again in their film Revolutionary Road. Although this time around, their film is only up for 3 Oscars, Kate herself has another chance at winning a tiny gold man for her role in The Reader, having been nominated as Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role.

Either way, it's good to see the old gang back together on the red carpet!

Brad Pitt's Happy To Be Starring In A Winner

OK, well The Curious Case of Benjamin Button hasn't won any Oscars yet, but the film is right behind Titanic and All About Eve in terms of all-time most Oscar nominations for a single movie.

With 13 nods to its credit, Benjamin Button needed only one more to have landed itself in a three-way tie with the other two films. At a press conference in Tokyo (he brought his brood along with him to Japan), Brad Pitt admitted that the critical recognition had him "thrilled."

"It means that more people get to see it and I think it's a worth film that deserves that kind of viewing--over and over again," Brad told the media. Hey, pipe down with your marketing. In case you hadn't hear, there's a recession going on. We can't afford to be going to the movies three times a day! The correct answer was, "It's an honor just to be nominated."

News Bites: Kelly Osbourne Slapped Herself Into Jail

-Reality TV star Kelly Osbourne was placed under arrest after a slap-attack at a club on gossip columnist Zoe Griffin. Kelly's rage was invoked by Griffin's assertion that Osbourne's fiance, Luke Worrall, was "stupid" for not knowing what an earthquake was. When are the Osbourne women going to stop losing their tempers defending the mental capacities of their mates? Oh that's right...never.

-The Kevin James comedy Paul Blart: Mall Cop took in a whopping $33.8 million over its opening weekend. That's a hell of a lot of Cinnabon and Hot Topic. Other top contenders at box office were Clint Eastwood's Gran Torino, the Biggie biopic Notorious and the slasher flick My Bloody Valentine.

-Brothers & Sisters star Rachel Griffiths is giving her two children a new sibling. The Aussie actress is pregnant with baby number three with hubby Andrew Taylor. The couple will welcome a new child into their brood, which consists of 5-year-old son Andrew and 3-year-old daughter Adelaide Rose.

No. 1 Box Office Winner Clint Eastwood At BAFTA/LA Tea Party

Wouldn't you just love to see Clint Eastwood, daintily lifting up his cup of tea to his lips with his pink crooked just as slightly as his Dirty Harry sneer?

The director attended the British Academy of Film and Television Arts pre-awards tea party for the nominees, many of whom will be attending tonight's Golden Globes.

Eastwood, who has award nominations for his film Changeling is riding high on the number one box office spot when his latest film Gran Torino was widely released. Dude should be feeling lucky right about now.

Stars from the British and American versions of The Office were there, including Dawn, the original Pam (played by British actress Lucy Davis). Ah, memories...

Will Smith Confirmed As Most Moneymaking Movie Star...Again

A survey held by the Quigley Publishing Co. to determine which movie star made the most moolah at the box office in 2008 surprised exactly no one when Will Smith won the distinction.

According to Forbes, Smith was paid the most money of any other actor between June 1, 2007 to June 1, 2008 and this survey here just confirms that the money spent on the actor was well worth it.

Hmm, anyone hear how Valkyrie's doing at the box office?

News Bites: Hugh Jackman On 'Dancing With The Stars'?

- Maybe in a commercial during the episode. Samantha Harris, the co-host of DWTS, is looking to get Hugh Jackman on the show. "Hugh Jackman, hands down. He's a song and dance man. He's a Broadway guy," she said. "He's got charisma and you know he can move." Apparently, she even once asked the hot dad herself. He laughed in her face, and called security at which time she was tasered and thrown out of the backdoor into the alley behind the restaurant. "He actually twirled and dipped me. I was so excited," she said. "That made my year." "Twirled and dipped" = "Struggled to get her off him, threw me on the ground, asked the manager what kind of place this was if people like her could just WALK in and bother him..."

- Marley & Me is still #1 at the box office and it's the first Christmas Day release to gross over a $100 million. Jennifer Aniston is the star (after the dog and Owen Wilson's effed-up beak), of course and how is her ex-husband Brad Pitt's de-aging the gremlin flick The Curious Case of Benjamin Button doing? #3 with almost $80 million grossed. I'm sure you can find Jennifer talking about it somewhere in some magazine and how she wished for the best for Brad's film and tell Angie I said she can blow me.

- It appears as though Paris and Nicky Hilton were CRAZY overpaid for their New Year's Eve hosting gig at the Bongo Virus Party in Sydney, Australia. The two dingos received $750,000 EACH. What in the-? Guess Australia's not having a recession. Plus, Australia let Brandon Davis into the country with them. Maybe they were having an oil shortage as opposed to a recession.

News Bites: Drew Barrymore's On To The Next Dude

- Hasn't she gotten through her list yet? Damn, she is a serial dater, always trying to fill that crevasse in her heart! We won't say with what. Here's Drew Barrymore sporting an Iron Maiden t-shirt (ten bucks she can't name one song by them other than "Number of the Beast"), some sort of Members Only jacket, and Appollonia's boots from Purple Rain. Guess who she went out on a date with? Jason Segel from How I Met Your Mother and Forgetting Sarah Marshall. She must have seen the peen scene in that and thought she could work with it. "Drew and Jason were obviously dating because they were kissing and touching each other throughout the night," a source said about the couple, who sang karaoke at the Brass Monkey Bar on Saturday night. They sang "The Rainbow Connection," which means they've ruined my childhood and are completely dead to me.

- Jennifer Aniston and Owen Wilson's dog movie Marley & Me is #1 at the box office, breaking the record for highest-earning Christmas Day opener ever AND earning a combined $51.6 million since it opened. Yes, her movie beat ex-husband Brad Pitt's creepy old face movie. She should totally try to get pregnant by John Mayer in celebration. Which will lead to their second breakup.

- Soul singer John Legend wants to go bowling for his 30th birthday. Legend sent out an e-mail to close friends detailing his birthday plans. "I hope you're healthy and happy. It's that time of year again. My birthday is sandwiched between Christmas and New Year's again (I tried to change that but apparently these things are permanent!). I'll be hitting the big 3-Ohhhhhh, so we're going to make this one special." He wants guests to meet at Lucky Strikes Lanes in NYC and then move to hotspot RdV (RMV?) at midnight. Ugh, bowling. Just meet him at the club, so you can skip wearing shoes that 1,000s of other people before you wore, beautiful people.
