It was undoubtedly a less awkward reception on David Letterman's talk show for Zac Efron than the one he received by Barbara Walters on The View.

While Walters gave Zac permission to keep his shirt on during his interview with his Me and Orson Welles co-star, Claire Danes, she did talk about such hard-hitting topics with the fetching young High School Musical star as his chest, bed head and after a while, his acting.

Much was made about Efron's inclusion on People's Sexiest Man Alive issue and it appears that Barbara was barely able to keep her hands off the 22-year-old. Don't believe me?

No, that's not a chip on Rihanna's shoulders, that's just her style these days. She recently explained that she's not yet ready to date and true to her word, her clothes are doing their best to keep her protected.

While in NYC, Ri-Ri took to the stage on David Letterman's late night talk show, where she gave a rendition of "Russian Roulette" from her new album, Rated R wearing a mini-dress with giant, protective shoulder pads. Watch the video after the jump.

For her album release party at the Supper Club in New York City, Rihanna stepped out in a short gold dress and metallic heels, all of which were covered with beautiful but dangerous-looking spikes. The message is clear--look, but don't touch.

For her cover of Maxim magazine, Florida native Ashley Greene looks more than comfortable posing on the beach in a low-cut tank top and denim cutoffs. The actress confessed to the magazine that she's currently getting physical for fight scenes in Eclipse.

Greene reveals, "Yeah, I get to fight in Eclipse. My trainer is teaching me MMA right now. So. Cool. But I feel if I was in a real fight, I'd get my ass kicked." Lucky for her, she's so damn charming, that is unlikely to happen.

Ashley also recently made her way to the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City for an interview with David Letterman on his late night talk show. And once again, the Twilight star selected a bright red outfit for the occasion. Is there something she's trying to tell us?

David Letterman did his best to get Penelope Cruz to crack under the pressure when she showed up on his talk show the other night. The host pressed the Spanish actress to confirm the rumor that she is currently engaged to longtime boyfriend, Javier Bardem, but Penelope remained tight-lipped.

Cruz responded, "I don't feel comfortable talking about my private life in public." When Dave persisted, Penelope admitted, "One thing I don't do, I don't lie about my personal life. It's sacred to me. It's my life. But I don't give details about it because I am allergic to that."

She also dodged any questions about a possible pregnancy, like Wonder Woman deflecting bullets with her wrists. If I were her, I would just pretend I didn't understand the question. Que?

Robert Pattinson's arrival (wearing a Burberry suit) to The Late Show with David Letterman shuts down 53rd street due to the masses of fans. Pattinson took time to sign autographs for his waiting fans, even stopping to sign a little girl's Twilight book.

Gossip Cop has posted some tidbits from Rob's appearance on David Letterman. Here are a few choice bits:

Pattinson discussed how girls AND guys go crazy around him. One large fella in particular asked for Pattinson to bite him, which he did... and the guy liked it.

Letterman showed the cover of Harper's Bazaar (with Pattinson and Kristen Stewart), and asked whether they were dating. Pattinson politely said he's been "cryptically avoiding" this question, and Letterman then jokingly cut him off with, "Oh, bite me!"

They discussed Pattinson's American accent in his film work, and Pattinson picked two words and said them with an exaggerated "American" accent. The first? "Sidewalk," which drew a huge laugh. Then he said "candy."

She Wolf singer Shakira recently made the day of an 11-year-old girl.

Page Six is reporting the Columbian beauty was on her way out of the Bowery Hotel in NYC when she spotted the young fan in the midst of paparazzi chaos. The mini-fan had been waiting outside the hotel for 2 hours while Shakira celebrated her new Rolling Stone cover inside.

An eye witness reports Shakira "...turned around and went over to the little girl and gave her a big hug. The girl started tearing up. It was very cute."

This is so heart warming! Shakira seems like a genuinely sweet star. She, without a doubt, made the pint-size fan's year with her kindness.

Critical reviews of the independent film darling, Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire, have earned the film high praise at both Cannes and the Toronto Film Festival, along with an endorsement by talk show host, Oprah Winfrey.

However, there was concern that the movie's dark subject matter wouldn't be able able to lure movie goers into theaters. With Precious earning an average of $100,000 from 18 screens in four cities, the future of the Lee Daniels-directed film looks anything but grim.

But then again, it has Mariah Carey in a mustache, which is hard--if not impossible--to pass up.

Star of The Old Adventures of New Christine, Julia Louis Dreyfus, chatted with David Letterman about how her 17-year-old son is applying to college. This brought up a story of her own college application days, particularly an incident that took place when she applied to the all-girls institution, Wellesley.

The actress says that she brought her biology lab notebook for her interviewer to peruse during their meeting. She told Dave, "So he's looking through it and he's not saying anything... He got to the page that I drew a dissected frog with the frog's reproductive organs, and he just looks at it and he goes, 'Testes.'"

As if that weren't odd enough, during her tour of the campus, a bee flew up her skirt and stung her on the rear end.

While that might sound mortifying, these days, the bees carry digital cameras and would probably post that shit on their Facebook profiles.

The ever-lovable Tom Hanks took his charming movie star self to David Letterman's talk show (although the baby he met outside the studio didn't think he was so charming) and dropped a bombshell of a revelation. The Forest Gump star admitted that his favorite song of 2009 is none other than the catchy Beyonce Knowles song, "Single Ladies."

Starting to sing the catchy tune for the audience, Hanks crooned something to the effect of, "Dada-dada ring on it! Dada-dada ring on it!" The 53-year-old Hollywood veteran admits, "That is a damn fine song, the Beyonce song...because it's infectious."

Additionally, Hanks finds that the lyrics have been applicable in his relationship with his wife, Rita Wilson, confessing that his thoughts when they first met were as follows: "I'm gon' put a ring on that finger. I'm gon' take that thing home."

The only thing missing is a Tom putting on black unitard and shaking his groove thang.
