Spike TV's Scream 2009 Awards Show

Johnny Depp and Keith Richards made a surprise appearance at this year's Spike TV's Scream 2009. The award show honors the best in sci-fi, horror, fantasy and comic-inspired movies and TV shows.

True Blood and Twilight took home four awards. Transformers won three prizes. One of the highlights of the night is when Star Trek won the Ultimate Scream Award and William Shatner stepped out onstage to accept the award.

"J.J., I'll handle this," Shatner said to J.J. Abrams, seated in the audience, who also won best director and best sci-fi movie for Star Trek.

"This movie was big," Shatner said. "Imagine how big it could have been with me in it? ... I'll be waiting for your call."

Jennifer Lopez & Marc Anthony Help Renew America's Promise

The event was Celebrando El Cambio: Renewing America's Promise and in fitting fashion the rumored-to-be-ailing-romantically couple Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez, who presented a united front on the red carpet with JLo wearing her wedding ring again.

Dressed in electric blue with a dramatic updo, Jennifer looked radiant as her tiny husband clung to her with a ferocity that probably left little indentations in her skin. Love hurts, y'all.

Another high-profile Latina who used her celebrity to encourage Hispanic voters to make it to the polls this election was the lovely Rosario Dawson. I'm LOVING her hair. And speaking of hair, check out Paulino Rubio's amber waves of grain.

Stars Paint The Turtle Without Paul Newman

At the Davies Symphony Hall, stars like Julia Roberts, Bruce Willis, Sean Penn, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson all gathered for two reasons. First and foremost, the event was a star-studded charity to raise money for The Painted Turtle. Secondly, the evening served to remind those present that Paul Newman, the founder of the camp for children facing life-threatening diseases had recently passed away.

A dramatic reading of The World of Nick Adams moved the audience of around 2,500 people. Danny Glover said, "We expected Paul to be with us and so this kind of turned into kind of a tribute."

Joaquin Phoenix and Casey Affleck showed up looking grungy and thoughtful. For a second there, I thought it was Vincent Gallo, but then I remembered that he probably wouldn't be caught dead within 100 feet of something of something remotely resembling charity.

UPDATE: Here's a little fun fact about the evening. A reader was outside celeb chef Traci Des Jardins' Jardiniere Restaurant last night after the event and got to see Julia Roberts and her friends including Danny Moder, Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson, Bruce Willis, Jack Nicholson, Sean Penn, Robin Wright Penn, Billy Crystal, Janice Crystal, Danny DeVito, Bonnie Raitt and Marsha Williams. Julia was celebrating her birthday and diners inside heard the group sing, "Happy Birthday" to Julia and Rita.
